Hi I would really appreciate some help. I have been told that my 2004 MG ZR 1.4 3door plus petrol engine needs a new coil pack and leads so I rang a car parts shop to order this. They asked me if it was a single or double coil pack as both was showing up for this model when they were trying to order them. I dont know which it is and I dont know anybody who would be able to check out which it would be and I am afraid to order the wrong one and the car isnt able to drive to the parts dealer for them to look at it to decide. I really would be so grateful for any help anyone could give me on this. Thanks in advance, Aisling.

You'll need to remove the three 8mm bolts which secure the Spark Plug Cover to reveal the coil packs of later K-Series engines. This shows the cover before removal on a 1.6 K-Series :~

This shows a pair of coil packs when the cover is removed from my 2003 MGZS120 with 1.8 K-Series :~

Two 8mm bolts secure each of the two Coil Packs. Their positions are interchangeable. The Coil Pack located over the Spark Plug in No. 1 cylinder also provides the sparks for the spark plug in Cylinder No. 4.

The one over Spark Plug No.3 also suppies sparks to Spark Plug in Cylinder No. 2. So if you remove them, simply remember 1 and 4; 3 and 2... Sorted.

These Coil packs on all the Rovers and MGs I have experience with have been 100% reliable. Heavy handed removal can damage the Plug Cover Tubes and stress the HT leads. That's when they can give trouble ~ heavy handed removal. If one of the Plastic Tops to the Spark Plugs Nos 4 and 2 are difficult to remove with the fingers, patient and careful use of a pair of pliers will pull them up without damage.

This is what a pair of K-Series Coil Packs looks like removed from the engine :~

Hope this helps anyone needing to remove their car's Coil Packs.
