That's actually rather a fine Roverish looking creation, try shortening the bootdeck and lowering the rear screen and it would look pretty damn good.

As an aside. I think the profile of the Gen2 is very similar to the last generation Megane. In which case a Coupe should work well but care will need to be taken in order to avoid it looking too "Renault-ish".

would just need the boot like craig has added here to stop it haveing the cut short look, with the beet it will folow in the old tomcats look

 

Good effort, Craig, BTW - it looks neat and tidy (traditional Rover styling values, in my opinion).

 

Ok , I have shortened the bootlid and extended the rear window. Looks a little better.

I'm working a coupe version as we speak .

i would say they need to take any new car thay can if its can be on sale fast then thay need it give it 18 months than try going for the brand new ideas

 

Very nice car. Craig, can you give it swooping taillights like the ones in the 75? I think it´s a feature that does wonders for any car.

Yes but cutting edge stuff does sell.

Remember the R200 mk2 and the R400 mk1 they were cutting edge in terms of interior build quality and style, + excellent engines. Remember ther 214SEi and the 416GTi - they were impressive cars that solds.

The Focus was cutting edge when it came out and its sold loads

The Renault Megan mk2 is cutting edge and like the styling or not it sells bucket loads and this is is not down to huge discounting.

The RD/X60 could be cutting edge if it takes a number of styling cues from the Rover concept car. The front needs work but with Peter Stevens it could look like the dogs ********. The back is superb esp that cut out in the bumper!! The side needs only minor improvements. All of this would give Rover a winner. Rememebr the Blue car that appeared in one of the car mag's - superb

I am glad someone else recognised the Megane I have been thinking this for a while

 

Thanks for the comments. Isn't the RD60 going to replace the 600? and the Gen2 would replace the 45 hatch. I really think the RD60 project should be a replacement for the mk2 200 range spawning a hatch , saloon , estate etc...Because the big hatch and saloon market (Vectra etc) is shrinking.

Anyway here is the latest version of my photoshop , got some nice 400 saloon style rear lamps now.

Yeah the RDX60 does appear to be aimed between the 45 and 75 in size, so the Gen2 is likely to be the direct 45 replacement. (IMO)

 

Thought Gen 2 fell between the 25 and 45 a la focus class.

I agree, it will most likely be at the expense of the 45, but it won't be a direct replacement. Potential customers will move up to RD60 or down to Gen2 depending on which sector the seem themselves needeing.

As far as I'm aware the Gen2 sits on a platform with a 2600mm wheelbase, which is about the same as the Golf, Astra and Focus. Then again, the styling isn't quite as upright as those three, so interior space might be slightly smaller, most probably on headroom.

 

The Gen2 would look really cool if it got the same body treatment as the latest top spec ZS. Air intakes down the side, beefy side skirts, big bugger off spoiler, now that would be cool!!!

Good, but looks like a Mercedes C-Class coupe.

To my eyes Craig's done sterling work on the Gen2. The side profile looks a lot like a 156, particularly the rear half of the car. I like. It certainly appeals a hell of a lot more than the hatch.
