According to various manual my '96 216SLi bubble has a 50L fuel tank. When filling from just on top of the red I can only get about 35L of fuel in. Is this right? Is the red about 15L?

I've been below the red, The needle just sits on the black line beneath the red, when I filled it up took 46 litres, says in the manual it's got 50 litre tank, must've had atleast another 35 miles then.
Ive got a 218 and only mange to get 32L in it when down to the red. However i dont really ant to carry on going while on read as dont really fancy getting stuck by the motorway and phoning recovery saying you ran out of petrol.
The manual for my 03 ZR also says it has a 50 litre fuel tank, but when I take the fuel as low as I dare, I've only ever got just over 40 litres in. I'd say red zone is about 10 litres, but like the guy said earlier, fuel gauge is about as reliable as something french...
The tank will be approx 50l, you need to factor in expansion of the fuel due to temp fluctuation...
The fuel guages only give an approximation of fuel left and depend on any number of things from angle of car, temp of fuel in tank vs outside temp etc....
Most car manufacturers factor in a safety amount to prevent you from running out of fuel.....5-10% is normal, so when you get to the red you have enough to get you to a petty station....
The red line is only a warning to fill up and you shouldnt run it below this due to the possible damage you could do to the car :shake:
The red band is quite vague when it comes to the amount of fuel left, it could be anywhere between 7-12 litres.
