fitting all the wiring to the fog lights today, got the wiring/gromit in, now attaching the wiring is somewhat confusing. I've connected the single pin into C0062 so that's ok, now i'm left with three wires, as shown, i'm presuming black one is earth and can be bolted anywhere. the Red/black and Brown are the confusing two. I can't make out from the diagram i've got where the hell they go! Can't really see where they'd fit. Anybody?

Hi Loaky!

I've sent you the MGF foglight fitting instructions haven't i!? I have got the TF ones here in front of me! I can post them if you want, but i would imagine you need them now?
Also, one thing i didn't realise is you have the very latest style fusebox, so i'm not sure how accurate my TF ones will be as it pictures the earlier looking fusebox in the diagrams!
I'll post a link in a mo' if i can get the damn thing exported from Adobe!!

Yes mate you sent me the TF ones with the loom, but must of been an early design as the pictures didn't look diddly like mine. I know my car is November 03 so as you say maybe a later design.

You could email the F ones too if you like mate, maybe using both TF and F wiring instructions I can make some kinda hybrid / bodge that works!

Loaky!

21. Insert red/ black wire connector into connection 4 of fuse box.
22. Insert brown wire connector into connection 5 of fuse box.

This obviously is for the older style fusebox, so you will need see if you have any free conectors available on your fusebox.
Let me know how you get on.

You might be onto something when you mention the brown wire on the bottom of the front fusebox, there's a few brown wires going in, and a spare socket. (see picture below)

Which leaves me to the red / black wire with the same connector, where would he live?

This is assuming the red / yellow wire goes into the space in thge connecter block I found.

If i'm right so far i'm going to have to extend the brown wire to reach, which is the best route to follow (one fusebox to the other)?

Also so i'm not working completely blind does someone have a key to what the wires actually are/ and what there job is?

Basically mate...

Red/Orange = i would imagine is just for the telltale.
Brown = Main 12v +Pos feed. You take from anywhere really!
Black = Earth
Red/Black = Normally illumination, but obviously is used so you can only turn the fogs on while the main lights are on and not while the ignition or main lights are off.

Hope this helps.

I must have sent you early TF diagrams, as i can't find my MGF ones! You know my phone number anyway, so if you need me just give me a bell!

Don't really get what you mean by telltale..

I get that :broon:

Think I get that, finding a home for it though looses me.. :errx2:

Once I have had a bite to eat I will go and have a look at mine to see if I can spot a Red/Orange and Red/Black wires and connectors. Mine has the latter fusebox and fogs so we should be able to work it out from that, although mine will have a TF harness not a modded F one.

Edit: According to the wiring diamgram in the workshop manual, the orange/red wire goes from the relay to the switch, and the red/black goes though a fuse (number 26) which is in turn connected to the lamps?

Hi Loaky,
The telltale is the little light on the switch that lights up when the button is pressed to tell you they are active! This would just be a permanent live also i would imagine as it is earthed through the relay according to my diagram! The red a black wire would need to come from a scource that is only available once the headlights are on. So you could take it direct from the headlight if you wanted. I would give you colours but i don't have any late TF wiring schematics on me at this time! If you were in the area i would just say pop down and i'll wire it in for you! I can't remember your address but i'm fairly sure your not in 'popping in' distance! lol.

ah I get what you mean now, ok now I have a 'vague' understanding of what all the wires are doing! :D

And yeah I think it's out of the 'popping in' radius but if I can't mackle something together I might take you up on that! ;)

With a mate at the moment, he thinks the brown can be cut in any brown as it has an inline fuse, but the red/black wire cut into red on ignition switch.
Orange red in connecter above fuse box, like I said, telltale as kris said.

And I presume just use the relay and wiring already in the harness and not worry about the relay i've got to fit in the fuse box.

And the earths in the relevant places.

What do you all make of that??
