suppose it depends if your going to fit a cold air feed, if not, leave the bottom half in

 

as said above if your not fitting a cold air feed then leave the bottom half in as it will act act a cold air feed so you wont end up just sucking in hot air, if your fitting a cold air feed you can remove the whole airbox

Leaving the bottom part of the box in is not always an ooption dependant on cone size.

My k&n 57i was too large to sit into or ontop of the box, the bonnet wouldn't close.

 

If your car DOESN'T have ABS then you can pop it down towards the back of the bell hoising where the ABS module goes using the original pipework, nice draught down there.

 

you could put an open cone system under the battery-tray -> even with ABS

i did it that way
