front fogs

Ive just picked up a front fog light kit (which includes 2 x lamps, relay, & switch) for a mk2 mg zr 105, are the wires and connections already in the car so all i have to do is basically plug them in? Are they easy to fit? ive done loads of work on cars, just not that keen on electrical stuff.....:err:

i think i have seen on here something about you having to get them enabled by your dealer

 

Really easy to fit, i think there is a post on here that shows you how to remove the dash switch facia etc. You will have to go to an Xpart dealer to have them enabled on T4.

 

thinking of doing this myself shortly, what is this T4 thing? what does it do?

 

The T4 is the diagnostic computer that only the main dealers had. Xpart dealers have them. About £30 to get fogs 'coded' as they call it.

 

thanks for the help, do i need to get them enabled then, i thought they only disabled lighting etc at the factory then when they arrived at the dealers all systems were enabled before they were sold. i brought the kit from an xpart dealer and they never told me i would need to get the lights enabled.....

 

I'm fitting my front fogs on tuesday along with a new head unit...

When I get the fogs activated do you think they can activate all the electric (air con, mirrors, seats) at the same time incase I upgrade or do you reckon you need a circuit for them to be activated?

I am hoping that with my being the Trophy edition that they're already activated...I live in hope!

 

Morning everyone, not happy! just fitted fog lights, was really easy only took 20 minutes. But they dont work so now i have to spend £30 to get them enabled, when i brought the kit from xpart dealer they didnt tell me i would have to do this just happily took my £90 and sent me on my way......

I'm sure you could have got them cheaper. I got my fogs for £35 on ebay from Brown and Gammon. The thing is my mk2 needs a different switch and it cost me over 20 quid for that but I have seen loads of mk1 switches and relays on ebay for next to nothing.

Let us know how you get on getting them activated as I'm installing mine on tuesday and will have to start ringing around ex-mg dealers to get them activated.

I suppose you could ring around and find the cheapest.

oh... just reread, you have a mk2, sorry you avatar threw me! Either way mine ended up costing 70 quid delivered. I suppose it isn't essential to get them activated straight away as long as they're activated for the MOT. I'm only buying mine for the look of the car as i think front fogs relfect too much in fog so I never used them in the past.

yea ill let you know how i get on, theres a place in stockton im goin to try called rovetec theyve done all my servicing so hopefully they will enable them cheaply for me. the £90 i paid incluced switch and relay, have had bad luck with some electrical stuff on ebay. so got fog light kit direct from xpart dealer.............

 

My R25 passed the MOT yesterday (it's a Gestapo, I mean Government test here in NI) and the bloke didn't even ask me to turn on the fogs.

 

I got mine off e bay from brown and gammons. They only deal in reputable bits mine were oem MGR fogs. I think the whole thing cost 100 including T4.

 

7 years later it lives again lol


I tried to install my fog lights from a ZR and i need the damn back plate or soemthing. The holes where you screw the lights into has nothing behind it for the lights to stay in place. Will have to get a fitting kit it seems. But got these as part of an entrie front bumper / grille.

 

The bumper you got them from should have had little metal clips over each hole. It's the clips the screws actually thread into.

 

They were there. The screws were so corroded that I had to get rid of those bits. Having a look on RimmerBros later for them. Need some supplies anyway from there. Places like RimmerBros sure do make our lives a lot easier in the MGR community.

 

I believe they are called J clips or similar .
