Just won a set of ap's off the bay for £79, which I am delighted with!
Now, to fit, what else do I need to change? Presumably the discs, but what else?

Firstly well done that's almost stealing them.

Now IMHO you need to inspect them carefully and to that you need to clean them first so you can see what you have under the grime especially in the middle where the discs run and the pads sit.

Brake dust builds up there and then with wet it eats into the alloy if left. So clean, if all OK then paint to make the look pretty :). Yes to new pads so you need new pins. The mounting bolts for the AP's are a bit longer I got mine from MGMania (ebay shop they have) I seem to recall. Check the cross over pipes and bleed nipples. Worth replacing IMHO.

Oh yes and it's not often mentioned but the AP's should really be cleaned a couple of times a year in use to keeop the dust build up problem at bay. This suggestion came from an AP main distributer BTW.

Edit:- Just a sugestion:-

Paint the discs bells and the outer rim to stop the rust that makes them look so ratty after a time in use. That's just caliper paint and it's still fine several thoausand miles later.

Good advice on all points. Also I knock the pins out now and again and re fit them with a spot of copper slip or similar. Usually when I take the wheels off to clean them. Otherwise they stick and can be buggers to remove.

Have these 16" LE Multispoke wheels. These were fitted to the SE, Freestyle, and 75th Anniversary models as I understand it:-

Used 5 mm spacers as these were easy to get although through experimenting it seems 2.6 mm gave enough clearance. Thought 4 mm would be good but 5 mm ones were easier to find at the time.

Well, I just got a pair of (Used) APs off ebay too :) Say they come with good pads - will see. I also bought new pins and new bolts. So guess when they arrive I will clean them up (and paint if they need it) and lubricate.

Q: I had bought braided hoses for my MGF (which I haven't fitted yet) - will they fit the APs or are the hoses a different setup to the standard 'F brakes?

Still need to get some disks and some wheels all round before I can fit them but it will give me a new "project" for the winter :)

Of course I currently have a few projects on the boil ... reversing sensors and camera (just because I can and I like gadgets :)), converting to electronic driven speedo (from my mechanical one), and (longer term) getting a double-din head unit to fit the center console :)

Best

Right. Will be cleaning and repainting this weekend (finally) in preparation for a mechanic to fit them for me in a couple of weeks.
I still need to buy disks and pads, and am frankly bewildered by the choice out there.
Pads seem to range from about £15.00 for about £70.00 and disks from £60.00 upwards.
Presumably the higher end of the scale is going to be more geared towards track cars, but where do I need to be looking for an everyday use car?

For the 75th I bought a pair of APEC front 304mm discs. "Elsie" well her 4 pot calipers came with discs and I don't know the make. However in those 4 pots I am using Quiten Hazell pads and am very happy with their performance although we ahve never been on the track with them.

The 75th has new 2 pot calipers so has the pads that came fitted in them. We will know how they perform once bedded in and she is in use on the road.

There is this set of discs and pads from Mat at MG-Obsession:-

Ebay item 251503048738

at £107 delivered. Phoning him direct migh get a better price without ebays cut.

Cheers Plezier Euro Car Parts want £101.40, and I can pick up the following days. That's with AP pads and vented discs.

One more question.
I ordered a set of braided hoses from ebay, and they have sent 4.
As far as I can tell, you only need one per caliper, so I am guessing that they have sent me enough to do the rears as well?
Yes, they come in sets of four.
Front and back brakes :broon:

The purpose of braided lines is to stop the pipes 'swelling' when the brake pedal is pushed.
If you only had braided on the front set - that pressure would then be shifted to the rear pipes (if left rubber) as it would be the path of least resistance.

Also note that I think the front and bake are different lengths :broon:
