extra light wiring

i want to wire up a light that comes on with the ignition and goes of with engine
running on a ZR160 2002
i have tried an ignition live to one side of the bulb and connecting the other side to the wire from the alternator to charge warning light bulb this does not work as the wire does not go to earth when ignition is on

was thinking of oil pressure switch with but believes this goes through engine ecu

Any of the warning lights on the binnacle that specifically do that would be ok such as the battery light or engine crank

However it depends what this light is as to whether a relay or fuse wants putting in the circuit.

As said have tried it with the alternator light and does not work
as the wire to alternator does not become an earth path when the
Ignition is switched on
