Hang on ...We live in a democracy, isn't being free the great thing about being British? Free to choose who you but your car, your TV, HiFi, fridge freezer, Thai bride (oopps!) etc. I bet your TV's Japanese or are you so patriotic that you stand round the piano and sing land of hope and glory every night?

Stop disappearing up your own arses and let people show support for the lads in Portugal!!

Its called a free market economy - the Uk's always imported more than it produces hence Mr. Hitler's U-Boat campaign. I don't think the UK economy depends upon Rover alone. Yes I agree, buy British where possible but where better quality/ price is available from over seas you can hardly blame folk for buying an alternative. The UK car industry is on its **** as a result of its arrogance - the VW Beetle being a joke car to quote one such instance.

Anyway I think the threads about some-one being disgruntled about showing support for our boys in Portugal while driving a Nissan Micra?

Sorry just trying to be objective and sensible.

I don't have any objection to buying cars from different countries, although I would prefer to Buy British if I could.

That said, I've just bought a Vauxhall Zafira, which to my knowledge is built somewhere in bonga-bonga land. To my knowledge, however, there is no such thing as a british built MPV (there was in the 1970s and early 1980s - the Hustler, designed by Aston Martin's William Towns, but when was the last time you saw one of those?)

My objection is to seeing the St. George cross flags flying from BMWs, Citroens, Renaults and the alike. I wouldn't object to someone flying the flag from a Micra or a 206 - they are, at least, built in this country and providing jobs for thousands of british workers.

There is a difference... People driving beemers but flying an england flag are supporting their country and being patriotic. I can except that even though they own a german car. It's a world economy etc etc freedom fo choice.. great! Hey my TV is japaneese! Shoot me!

However... the other day I saw a (BMW :shh: ) Mini with a union jack painted on the roof!!! Now I almost felt compelled to say something to him. Are people so stupid and naive or is BMW's maketing so clever that people really think they are driving the icon of british motoring and not an unoriginal (by mini standards it is) german hatch?

It takes a lot to make my blood boil but watching this nob strut around thinking he's so cool in his union jack mini certainly did the job. I really believe he thought he had a british car and I swear if he lived local I'd pay a mobile spray shop to come and put the german flag on the roof and see what he thinks then!

:banghead: :wtf: :shake: :twak2: :irked:

Whilsty I disagree with the sentiments of the people saying I should buy from abroad because they are cheaper, what really bugs me is the people who whine that they are losing their jobs to Indian call cventres for example, whilst driving Skodas, or Farmers with "buy British produced food" on their Four traks.
If you buy cheap foreign produced goods, don't moan and bitch when your job goes abroad because they get paid less.

If you fail to buy British produced goods (i.e. goods processed or manufactured in this country) don't ever be surprised if people buy cheaper foreign produced goods & services than your own.

The French, Germans, Americans, Swedes, Japanese all understand this, why can't Brits???
