could be a few things, not just HGF, is it just the coolant that is dropping or are you getting any other symptoms?

 

just the coolent which is dropping, nothin else that i am aware of , wat are the other symptoms?

 

You should track down this leak before it catches you out, because then you WILL have head gasket failure.
The other symptoms mentioned are oil in coolant, coolant in oil, heater not working, boil ups etc.

Try taking the belt cover off and checking the water pump for staining. In the meantime, make sure you are topping up with antifreeze or the concentration will fall.

 

Theres nothing casual about coolant loss, it could be leaking/weeping, anywhere on the coolant circuit. If you are not taking immediate action you must increase the times you observe and top up the level.

Look for dried anti-freeze staining around the coolant circuit, including the radiator. If at any time the heater stops blowing heat, corresponding to engine temp, regardless of gauge reading, pull over and inspect level, through bottle, if low, let engine cool down before removing cap and topping up and bleeding system. Anything you don't understand........ re-post.

As said, look around the entire coolant circuit for a kind of whitish "fur" - my old mark 1 Escort had a leak, and the fur pointed me in the right direction.

 

Also, run the engine and check for leaks/drips under the engine. My coolant leak was due to leaky seals on the water pump. A new water pump solved the problem. It took ages to find though. Eventually the drips were spotted underneath the engine, dripping by the air con pipes.
