It is located at the very bottom of the centre console, facing towards the drivers footwell.

 

Assume the position - lie on the drivers seat with your head at the peddles and legs over the headrest area, look to your right - just where the plastic for the centre console stops and you should see the connector no problem.

 

Turning to your head to the right will have you looking at a piece of plastic trim :err:, its to the left mate lol.

 

You might find it's been fitted the wrong way round which is why you can't find it. Had this on my 200, just unplug and fit it the correct way round and everything should be fine.

 

Yes was laid on my front lol, why on earth would you want to lay on your back, the stress you'd put on your neck would be headache quality lol.

I found the diagnostic plug on my 'R' reg '97 200 TD (non-intercooler) - and yep, it was fitted backwards in the metal bracket so you couldn't connect to it without taking it out of the bracket - but when I connect my fault code reader, it cycles through it's startup procedure then gives me a "Link Error" message ..... now, is this because there's a problem with the socket or because, although the car was registered after '96, being a 200 it has 'throwback' wiring?

The Code reader is a Memoscan U380 and works quite happily on other cars from the late ninties.....

 

None of the generic EOBD code readers will work with the earlier versions of MEMS or EDC ecu's.
