Sounds to me if the filter is soaked that it has tried and most likley succeeded in sucking in a nice helping of water into the engine!!

But, have you also check to see if the water has caused any electrical faults that could be stopping it from starting?
screwed fuses/Relays/ECU?

Anything unusual at all when you click the key over before starting?

Having never had water in my engine before im not actually sure what actions you are suppose to take to fix something like this!

 

 

Mechanic is taking the head off and drying it out apparently, so work & new gasket more than likely.. Thankfully no water in the oil

 

Take glow plugs or injectors out whatever is easiest, and spin it over on the starter - the water in the cylinders should shoot out. See if it then starts and runs - hopefully it will, but there is a chance that its bent a rod and it might knock like buggery

Do not remove the injectors when they are pressurised though. Think you have to de-pressurise the system. Diesel injectors are high enough pressure to pierce the skin.

as rover king says,
also give it a compression test to make sure it hasn't bent any valves as water doesn't compress, no point removing the head!!!

 

Glow plugs taken out and some very little liquid squirted out, putting them back in now to see..

Could be a simple electronic problem from driving through large puddles?

 

if there was water in the pistons it sounds like it hydrolocked. bent conrods are not uncommon when it happens im sorry to say

if water squirted out id make sure they were completely empty of water before trying to start it again

It must have been very deep puddle for a 25 to take water through the air intake, I have had a MGZT that had 2 cracked linears and 8 bent valves because of water being sucked in but there pick up is low down, the insurance wrote that car off becuse the engine was competely gone

 

Was tha a blue Mg zt estate on a new shape 1.8 turbo by any chance

 

And the answer is from the mechanic is (apparently).. Water in the engine from the air intake managed to get down into the engine and mess up the timing of the car by making it skip a bit? (cog skipped a little?) so its not timed correctly so not starting.
Apparently there are alot of bent valves, rods, etc though :/

It sounds like it is sooo close to starting though, just needs that little tiny touch of life

Soooo its having another look at tomorrow to see what the story is but I doubt she'll be gone for good. But fingers crossed

Might be cheaper to drop secondhand engine in to the car

If the belt has slipped then you'll need a new head to get it to run properly.

If the engine has hydraulically locked then they usually bend the rods meaning a new/second hand engine is required.

 

No it was a Le Mans Green MGZT 195+ 2002/52 2.5 V6 petrol, two liner shattered, valves bent, two pistons with holes, but its still ran and drove, I put a secondhand engine in to it.
