Can the KV6 2.5L be further stoked and bored?

the question here is can the blocked be bored out beyondthat amount and can the stroke be lengthened beyond that of the 2.5l and the answer to both questions is apparently no.

Actually when the engine was first introduced it was stated (by a Rover Group engineer IIRC) that it could in theory be stretched to 2.7l max. and no more, because of the lack of space between the bores. Not being an engineer myself I do not know if this is true or not.

As far as I understand it, there is very little more than can be obtained from the 2.5 V6 mainly due to its design.

Its construction is a 'sandwich' of layer long bolted throughout the whole engine, the result is there are a lot of surface areas that come under intense pressure. The long stroke of the 2.5L V6 delivers the max 190Ps power but also creates a large amount of compression pressure.

The actual V6 is a small block engine and very light for a 2.5L V6 because it made entirely of aluminium.

Finally, the bore liners are quite thick and rely on a certain amount of metal to provide structural integrity and water cooling channels to stop the whole engine getting too hot.

This is the crux of the problem. By increasing the bore to accomodate 2.7L and also the long stroke, the engine would be very close to overheating and the subsequent premature bore liner wear.

To get more, it would make more sense to either use a third party engine or do what Rover have done before, bolt on additional cylinders to create a 3.3L V8, hardly practical.

I wish they would!

But honestly, they have to figure out some way to get bigger capacity engines without relying on Ford V8s. Everyone else has 3.0 litre V6s or bigger in their bread and butter cars these days. The 75 needs to be the same, okay a 260PS V8 version would be welcome, but there'd be quite a gap between that and the current most powerful, the 2.5KV6.
