Cabriolet Clutch Pedal and biting point high

Hi There

Wonder if anyone can help with this. I had the clutch changed on my 216 Cab before xmas as the biting point was right at the top of the pedal. It needs new clutch I thought so off to the garage it went!

Now just 5,000 miles on the biting point on the clutch is right at the top again. I do a lot off driving in rush hour traffic and this is becoming really annoying and making my leg ache by the time I get home. Surely the clutch hasn't gone already?? I don't keep my foot on the clutch as the pedal is high. Or could it be the clutch cable has stretched and needs replacing?? Anybody got any ideas??

The clutch pedal is also about an inch higher than the brake pedal, is this normal or can it be adjusted at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to check the cable adjustment. There is adjusment on the gearbox end of the cable by slackening the locknut, making the adjustment and tightening again in accordance with your model manual. (I presume we are talking a cable clutch or just ignore this post!!!) It may be the cable that is the problem. They can be bought cheaply on ebay and aren't too big a job to replace.) Is the cable stiff to operate?

It would appear that you need to shorten the inner cable slightly (ie. too much slack at present) If you look at the gearbox end of the cable, see if there is any slop/slack where it attaches/operates. There should be only very slight play before it starts to move the clutch operating lever against the release bearing. Take out any excess slop by slackening the locknut and adjusting the cable until there is just a tiny amount of slack. (Push the operating lever back and forth until resistance is felt) Do NOT overadjust or you may make the clutch slip. Follow a workshop manual for accurate adjustment.

There is no adjustment on the K series power cars clutch cable. It has a spring loaded outer sleeve. It is made to wear down with the clutch.

So it might be time to fit a new cable. On saying that my Cabbie is on its orginal clutch at 70K and the pedal is at the top. But its been like this for 3 years so I am not to worried.

But I would suspect the cable has stretched. You can ratchet it by pulling it towards the rad but it will only adjust back after afew engages etc.
