Went out last night to pick some people up. When the first person got in, the front the door wouldn't shut. Slammed once or twice, no joy till I got out and pulled door handle a few times and then it shut ok. Then the back doors did the same but wouldn't shut till I pressed the lock button down. However I couldn't open them again and nearly ended up with 2 x 80 year old women locked in my car forever. Luckily, one door opened, and they eventually dragged themselves out. I reckon the mechanism is frozen. Never had that before!! Any help appreciated, also, is there a 'how to' remove door linings so I can lubricate the mechanism.

happened to me this morning , it was minus 5 , my driver door opened and tho it closed ok my door open warning light stayed on , 35 mile journey with heaters on and when i opened and closed the door the light went out , i think the best thing to do in very low temperatures is to leave the car unlocked, unless of course you live in a bahgdad type place :slap: flyer.

It sounds like the freezing weather working its wonders, you could remove the door linings and lubricate everything within with a heavy grease but usually just spraying WD40 with the red pipe attached inside the mechanism and all around does the trick, although it makes a mess it will last a while,de-icer or any alcohol based spray will work short-term if its an emergency also.I spray WD40 carefully inside the mechanisms, keyholes etc..before the frosts start and havent had any trouble yet, rubbing vaseline around all your rubber door seals, window seals, boot etc..will also prevent them freezing and sticking

I had the same problem with my doors the other day , followed info on this site and got them all fixed , i had 2 stuck shut and one locked but open .
I sprayed wd40 where the latch is , AND also into the door where the handle is , to do this pull the handle as to open the door now while holding the
handle look for the gap that is exposed , see red circle in picture

Hope this helps .

Haven't lubricated yet and same happened today, but no old ladies present. Drive to Birmingham with heaters on full blast has sorted it. Window washers frozen but thats ok now and have put good dose of screenwash with antifreeze in.
That picture is a surprising likeness to my old ladies but they were sherried up and quite happy

Had the same problem last winter, but only after opening/closing the boot in freezing conditions - electrics thought boot was still open as the interior lights stayed on, normally solved during the 20 minutes or so drive to work.

This morning the same thing happened with the front n/s passenger door after the management got in - now have message centre so at least I knew which door it was - had to turn the interior lights off manually. Drove to the shops, car locked OK - but with the misslock beep! - by the time we'd come out it had thawed and the problem had gone away.

I'd just go along with the fact that a bit of dampness that is in and around the microswitch is freezing and causing it to stick and hence the fault. I've tried WD40 and such into the lock itself - but I really think letting it thaw naturally is probably the best way to go.

We've had quite a few threads such as this and I don't think they'll be the last this winter.

The microswitch I assume is within the lock itself

so spraying WD40 through the outside door handle is not really going to address the problem.
