Its been increasing lately .. Driving down the street with my window open im guaranteed to find some mug who thinks they are funny shouting "HEADGASKET" or "HOWS THE HEADGASKET" .. At first it was funny and uncommon if im honest.. Now its taking the **** a bit. Anyone else have this problem. (could be something to do with where i live though haha!)

Edit - its even worse amoungst my friends - suppose its just banter but everytime i see them its "got a hip recplacement to go with your rover yet" haha!

lol some cheeky bugger I used to work with (old bloke) walked past my house as I was finishing off polishing my perfectly clean beauty...

first words i heard were "scrap job is it?"

People soon shut up when they think about it and realise you have an economical, nippy, spacious, good condition, comfortable and surprisingly reliable car with dirt cheap parts and only paid ÂŁ350 with 12 months MOT.

Don't complain too much, it's how most of us got our rovers so cheap in the first place  just smile and know that they're the ones missing out.

drove to bristol with a workmate who drives a golf GT TDi recently, and took the car to 70 in second gear. he told me he'd have thought the car was running at least 160bhp if he didn't know otherwise.

i honestly have no idea why rovers have such a bad reputation, but i also don't care about it at all. surprising people is worth all the stick i've ever gotten and more!

i have to say though, i've seen a few k-series head gaskets failing on the road before!

I haven't had any stick for a bit. But if you like you car that's what's important, and with MG/R you get a lot of car for your money. Every time I changed cars I've looked at other makes, but MG/R's always come out better value as their main period of depreciation has already happened and they are not mainstream. This site also helps as most people here obviously really appreciate their car. :)

The only bit of stick i got the once was when i got my rover metro, the alternator went whilst i was up merry hill the once and the immobliser came on so couldnt do anything as was trying to bump it with the help of a random and his comment was ** Why have you even got an immobliser on a metro ** my reply was * it was already on when i got the car * he went quiet lol..

my other two rovers after not had any sort of negative stick most of it was good :broon:

I used to get a bit of stick from all my mates with their saxo vtr's etc. then one of my mates bought a 1.4 ZR and started to realise how good they compared to the other **** makes about..

They used to ask me if my HG was on its way out and stuff, even though mine is a TD..

We went on a road trip once, me in the TD and them gays in their VTR's and I couldnt see them in my rear view mirror for black smoke :) Problem solved, never got any **** after that

Im not gonna lie, my first car used to be a Pug 206 but i was sick off all the dents etc..

My dad hit a dear with it at 70mph and it nearly ruined the whole car..

Fixed it up and I kept it for a bit longer till I went round a corner and spun out.. I hit a kurb and because it was slammed to **** so when it hit the kerb, due to the hard suspension it broke:

Bent wishbone
Snapped steering arm clean in half
Bent track rod
Shattered my alloy wheel
and the wheel got rammed back, hit my sill/sideskirt and bent the wing also..

Lovely.. fixed it all up and sold it!

It was a nice looking car though tbh..

I get stick from a few lads from college, one owned a Fiat Seicento 1.1-1.2, one a Punto 1.2 (now a Bravo 1.6) and another a Saxo 1.1, all of them cars are probably more prone to HGF then Rovers are, the Seicento actually did have HGF.

A couple of years ago someone actually asked me if I was going to take advantage of the scrappage that was running at the time! My 25 was then only 6 years old.

Unfortunately any one shouting "Headgasket" at me now has a point as I had to have the headgaskets replaced on both my 25 and my MGF last year.

If it happens again, you should save a bottle of the crap that comes out of the coolant when you drain it. Then you have something to threaten them with next time they have a go... a t-shirt full of nasty coolant .

I wonder how long it would take for people to stop shouting headgasket at us when they realise we're armed with an extra weapon :err:.

I get stick all the time... Perks of being in the Army...

I got it when I had my ****ron saxo VTR

I get it now I have my ZR105

However the ZR speaks for itself when it sh**s over most people who trash it.

**** on Trev and his Zetec S
**** on Drew and his Lawnmower
**** on Jamie and his 205
Kept up with Jonesy in his A3 2.0TDi no dramas to reline in 4th, at which point Sparky reminded me he has no legs for 5th....

the only one who doesnt have a drama with me out of my friends atm is Dan with his 206 GTi140

But even though my car laughs at everyone....
They just say if I drive it that hard the HG will go lol

Which if it does it's time for project rebuild!
