Hi new here tonight and would like some advice if i may.
I have just bought a Rover 25 1600 16v y reg car and would like to replace the anti-freeze.

Is it just a matter of removing the bottom hose, flushing out with a hose pipe etc, putting hose back on,adding antifreeze and go for a drive, allow to cool and top up.

I ask this as a few years ago i had a peugeot and when i changed the antifreeze on it i had lots of air in the system and the gauge went right up into the red before i could top up the system, bit worrying so i thought i would ask the experts first before i do it.

Thanks very much.

I have had a look but still cant see the big problem.
Am i right in thinking that once the coolant has been drained i just refit the hose and open the bleed nipple a few turns add new coolant and once i see a nice flow of coolant without bubbles coming out of the bleed screw lock it off and top up the system.Obviously get it warm and top up as required when it gets cold.

If i am wrong with the above method can you explain why i need to be careful with the k series engine.

Dont mean to be rude but was put off by the reply and was considering taken it to the local garage but i thought i would post this again to see if i get a different reply that may make me do it myself and save on the ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ.

Thanks very much and dont be put off by me asking again.

I've never done it myself but due to the smaller than average pipes on the K series it's very very very easy to get airlocks in the cooling system which can cause inefficient cooling and hence HGF if not done properly. Or so I understand. Like I said it's the one job I've never risked lol

It is a simple enough job, well illustrated in the haynes manual. As has been said though, the K is a very sensitive engine where the coolant is concerned. Not done properly ie bleeding the cooling system and it can be disastrous.
