air filter

i want to replace the factory air filter on my 25 GTI with a K&N filter (not induction kit). The problem is, money is a little tight atm, and im worried about pushing the fuel bill a lot higher if I do this. Im happy with getting around 34-37 MPG at the mo, but im worried that if i put a K&N in there, it would push the MPG down to something I couldnt afford.

I travel at least 60miles a day, average speed about 50mph and i dont accel hard, unless i get some chavvy moron in a sooped up 1.2 nova thinking he has got a good car and tries to overtake me on a bypass....

Anyone got a rough guess of how much I can expect to loose in terms of MPG? just trying to get a rough idea.

cheers

really? anyone else think this can be?

also, anyone know how big is the tank on the 25 GTI. is it still the standard 50litre? i only ask because when i first filled it up, i guessed it was a 40litre because it was about 1/8 full already, and only took 32 litres to fill up completely. If its a 40litre tank, then thats good because im doing about 36MPG, however if its a 50 litre, it means im doing about 29MPG, which is crap considering i dont rag it.

Firstly if driven normally the panel filter will make little difference to your economy.

Secondly, it wouldn't matter if it was a 1000 litre tank as its irrelavant to working out the economy. You need the number of miles covered and number of litres to return the tank to the same level as before.
