I recently bought an X reg Rover 75 and i am amazed by the quality all around!

But i am getting some serious 'Ribbing' from friends, family and colleagues, saying i own an old mans car.

beign only 20 i suppose i am pretty young and i would also like to know if i am the youngest person to own a 75 in the U.K quite a claim to fame!

Any Responses Would Be Great

I've only ever driven (with the exception of a Toyota Avensis when I was working for Toyota) Rover Group products from the age of 17 (some 15 years ago!) so where dopes that put me?

I still drive a Rover 25 today and I'm about to pick up a ZT-T, but there is nowt wrong with owning one. The ribbing you are getting is simply because people do not understand what it is they are ribbing you about. This is one of the contributing factors to why we ended up the way we did: people's perception of the brand. The R75 was claimed to be the best front wheel drive car in the world because it was done right!

I've got loads of facts about R75's that will shut them up if you so desire. I wrote Pub Talk with some other engineers and it just goes to prove that the 75 platform is still a competitive vehicle.

Take no stick from them and ask them if they have ever spent any time in a R75 or indeed driven one! That usually shuts them up and unless they can justify their comments with hard facts, then they have no place in dismissing it or you!

Absolutely!

I took some stick when I bought my 1st 75. They'd never actually sat in one. So, I took them out in it; and they soon changed their tune I can tell you!

I was aged 19 when I acquired my first car (in 1969). It was 'almost' a P4 Rover 75 but made one year later in 1960, it was a P4 '100' actually.

Now that was a REAL old man's car I can tell you. Leather and wood, about 15 ft long, 1½ tons and 2½ litres just like the modern edition.

...but a tad more sluggish... :(

Hmm......................

What exactly is it that suggests that some of the resident .org 'hoodies' may be trying to twist the survey results a little?

Perhaps it's the 22 'alleged ' 75 owners in the 60 to 100 age group?

I am 25, have owned my ZT for 2 years... the reason i voted on this is that i very nearly had a R75 Tourer 2.5v6...

Now... how many Young people do you see driving estate cars ?? * has a focus estate as company transport * and how many young people do you see driving Mercedes E and S class ???

The R75 is not an old mans car, it has an Original interior that adds a sense of ellagance, just unfortunate that the younger generation these days can only see carbon fibre and shiny metal pedals as the only way an interior should be ...

So what if the median age of the Rover 75 owner is 87 ? What's wrong with it being an old man's car (if indeed it is) ?

I like being an 'old man' anyway and couldn't give a tinkers about the self-appointed arbiters of 'cool' who think youth is best. Or about motoring writers, who measure everything by the closeness of its conformity to their BMW/Mercedes ideal...

Personally I love the Rover 75 for its comfort, its luxury and its magisterial dignity.

Dare I say I think the bright interior colours and mean looks of the MG ZT variant are all a bit johnny-come-lately...

There - I've said it now! :D :p
