Those pre-regs look like the old 184g/km emissions, rather than the newer 174g/km versions, which means they are from the first year of production and have been sitting for a long time at this point?

So would that explain the price? You are, after all, going to be paying (marginally) more for fuel and tax than some of the used cars they've got on offer.

Edit: Incidentally, is there a way to search by location or an easy way to see the location? If there was one near me I might be very tempted to go for a look.
Just looked at them. The Union blue TSE magnette at the bottom of the page is apparently on it's way to Glasgow.

They are definitely the higher emission cars as they list £220 road tax as well as 184g/km. This means that they will have been manufactured at about the same time as my TSE GT which I paid less for last November.
I am quite happy with mine and intend to keep it for the next few years and am not worried what they now cost.

I wonder how they work the VED out. I'm sure I read somewhere on here that it applied to cars registered after a certain date (regardless of build date) so Motorpoint might be wrong.

Anyway, you're not going to care about an extra £20 per year when you are saving £6,000 on the price you'd get a 'new' one for even including the VAT offer.

I got a good deal on my MG6 brand new to me nearly 2 years ago.

The current glasses guide price adjusted for mileage on mine on a dealers forecourt is not far off what these Motorpoint cars are up for sale, why buy used when you can get a pre-reg car?

I will be interested to see what I get offered for my MG6 against a new Mercedes CLA 1.8
First they will have to find someone to underwrite the PX purchase. Nobody outside of MG in the trade will take one in without a buyer first.
I would expect to be given a tiny sum in PX if they are sucessful in finding such a buyer.

It would be more than likely be sent straight to auction anyway, or depending on the dealership they may decide to retail it themselves depending on mileage/condition.

Maybe they could run one of those weekly publications where you get something in kit form and over the space of many weeks you build said model. In this case they could send a component part of an MG6 and you would get a real car at the end of it.
If anyone from MGUK is reading this and wants to offer me a job in the marketing department, I want more than the packet of monkey nuts and bunch of bananas you pay the staff now before I will consider it .. Some spring rolls and crispy duck might swing me though.

What marketing department is this?

Low VED cars seem to be very thin on the ground. They didn't start until April 2012 so all the Avis cars appear to be high VED.

I have always maintained that all MG6s were at least £3000 overpriced. I never understood why the Magnette costs more than a base VW Jetta. A few people defended the crazy prices on the basis of the equipment levels but that clearly didn't convince enough people to switch from other brands.

It looks like this has been addressed with the MG3. Now they need to get the MG6 in line and reduce all the new prices by between £3000 and £5000. A '6 Magnette diesel is not worth £22K.

Ahh yes .. I forgot they saved all that money on marketing with a facebook page.. They have the last laugh in the industry with the most stand out sales figures each month though.

I am on a marketing roll and last night in a flash of inspiration I thought they could give cars away in Christmas Crackers.

I have a better advertising slogan - "its you buy one - you get one free - I sez you buy one you get one free"

Clearly the Magnette has not sold as well as the GT, but by doing this action, they have really given supporters of the company in the early days a kick in the teeth.

A £10K MG3 looks expensive now so rather than swopping the Peugeot now for one, I will wait and watch if the prices reduce.

I love my MG6 but I would have loved it a lot more if I had only paid £11K for it!

Seems one has been sold already!
Its a lot of car for the money, a bargain in fact when you compare it to what else you can get. Why they have not just realigned the pricing to try and get the numbers up instead of all these deals they keep cutting to offload the cars as it is ultimately killing the market for any new ones. Its basically a good car that is far better than some of the crap that sells in large numbers, but the lack of sales can only be down to the failings of MGUK.

You do wonder what the hell is going on at MGUK ... Based on your experience buying yours from new I wouldn't buy an MG3 until you see how sales stack up for the first few months. You would hope they have learnt from the mistakes, but I do seriously wonder.

I was happy with what I paid for my Magnette and have defended the residuals thus far, but a stunt like this has basically killed the residuals on the Magnette, why pay £10K for a 2 year old car when you can get a brand spanking new one.

Yes other manufacturers do deals on cars but this one is very disappointing as no thought has been given to the owners that paid hard cash and supported MG, when they needed it.

If I sell now I can still get £8500 for it against a Merc CLA AMG Sport exclusive, but with the exception of the interior, (it is streets ahead of the MG) the MG6 is a far better car , the Merc feeling under powered, and surprising the 1.6 Petrol only has a 5 speed box. The MG rides and handles better. A Base CLA has a list of £24K

The sad part about this is MG would have got another 2 new sales from me , but as it stands, I will probably just keep my MG6, although the MG3 may be a safer bet mind . I also feel sorry for the guys at the Salescentre they have 2 year old cars to sell for more than this and who would pay £17k for a diesel Magnette, £6 grand will buy an awful lot of petrol.

I can only think the Magnette is being dropped, Motorpoint not having any 63 plate GT's

I have not changed my opinion of the MG6 Magnette TSE, it is a great car and unbeatable now you can get a new one for £11K!

I hope they don't kill the magnette. Its by far my fave car they make. But dear god its overpriced.

They just have to get those extra engines out. new petrols and diesels still badly needed for the 6, and could transform the 3 from being mearly good to excelent

I would take that list price with a pinch of salt, I would be surprised if anyone paid £20K for one, what I paid for mine made it outstanding value compared to other brands.

They may be repositioning it in the range, usually 4 door saloons cost less than hatchbacks.

The 4 door Proton Preve will be launched at £11K with 5 years warranty 5 years servicing, 5 years breakdown and 2 years road tax. The Preve in many ways is similiar to the MG, designed and engineered in the UK by Lotus but built in Malaysia.

The same can be said of most brands at the moment though

and how many people don't haggle anymore. I've been to more than a few dealerships who say people just don't do it anymore (they do when i walk out the door though ^^)

I'd imagain a fair few look at £20k and think bugger that, and head to the bmw garage or the vw garage
(well assuming enough people have actually heard of the -6)

List on a base 3 series is nearly £27K now, once spec'd up the same as the MG6 you are around £35K, in 3 years that BMW will have lost the list of an MG6!

Its a mental thing though. unknown half chinese half english brand for known premium european brand.

Its why i think the gt-86 is overpriced. at £25k, thats knocking on 370z/imprezaSTI territory
