Car locks & unlocks OK, engine starts fine then a few seconds later car alarm goes off, engine keeps running Fine. switching off, then pressing lock on remote
stops alarm, press unlock, car starts fine & runs without problem until next time it is locked then unlocked. Car battery fully charged, batteries replaced in both remotes. Any help appreciated.

Just looked on line. I reckon these must have been replaced at sometime, they are different to the Rover ones, However they are 3 button & have worked fine since buying the car 3 years ago & the car is a Rover 45 cvt, 05 Reg.

Being your car Rover 45 and mk2 most probably you have problem with water ingress in alarm battery backed up sounder (BBUS) which is under expansion tank in engine bay. You would need to remove it and dry it.
It would be the best if you could find mk1 version of BBUS from scrappy as they are better built and replace yours.

Swap is possible, but I am not sure if it is possible from MGTF because I think that MGTF alarm system has somewhat different software loaded.
Further, you need to swap system from the same engine, because engine ECU must match engine type.
Idealy would be to find system from same R45 with same engine and with 2 fobs, so you can swap engine ECU, Pektron ECU and use fobs from that one.

The actual Pektron Units were basically the same across the TF, 25/ZR and 45/ZS, but there were two variations according to whether the unit was fitted in a facelift or pre-facelift car (as the facelift of the 25/45 gave rise to a revision to include the boot/tailgate unlock feature, and the 3 button fob instead of the two).

You should have no problem fitting a Pektron unit from a TF if the part number marked on it is YWC001541. If it is an earlier YWC001540, it will not contain the firmware necessary to operate the boot/tailgate release.

You are also likely to find that some of the electrical features on your 45 which are controlled by the SCU may not have applied to the donor vehicle, and so may need to be enabled (which will require a visit to somebody who has the relevant diagnostic software/equipment to do this, usually the MG Rover dealer 'T4', - also the pscan can now program Pektron remote fobs, but I am not sure whether it is able to enable/disable any other SCU functions??.

Fascinating answer - the one I've seen on eBay is the XXX1540 part number with two fobs and does not have boot/tailgate release button on the actual fob itself. It is, however, an oval fob connected to the Pektron unit itself. Stupid question, but is the boot unlock via the fob really necessary to have? It doesn't bother me if I can't open the boot with the fob, since all of the cars I've had previously have been either unlocked by key or by the latch in the car itself. The Rover is the same, I can unlock the boot via the latch. Sure it's less of a convenience to have - but if it means I can get two fobs, I'm not fussed :)

What features are likely to be enabled/disabled in the TF? Only ones I can think of is electrical gubbins, central locking, electric windows and a few other bits and pieces - both the donor car and my Rover doesn't seem that advanced, but I'm always looking to know about the Pektron.

I would like to say, if anybody's interested, is that the alarm system does come with ECU, SCU, and two fobs. A link if anybody's interested?

Also, for what it's worth, there's another dude on Ebay selling a Pektron alarm system without fob (but with EKA) from a Rover 45 1.8 and says that it's simply a case of plug and play into any Rover / MG. Is he being honest? He removed it from his old car because he had no use for the car anymore, he'd scrapped it.

Would buying the eBay link above be literally a case of plug and play in my Rover 45? Sorry for the questions! :)

Mgf set up won't have boot release, rear wash/wipe programmed. Front fogs dependent on wether mgf had front fogs. Drivers electric widow will be fine as will horn and rear fogs. So you would need rear wash wipe programmed so more expense.
As for other set up without fobs not much point buying as you would need to use Eva code everytime to use car so not very good choice.
Sorry can't be much more help,Bren.

Hi Bren,

No no, thank you very much for clarifying that it will work if I switched them over - to a degree anyway :) My chief concern was that since I bust the second fob and I don't have the EKA code whether or not the fob would actually get the central locking to work (i.e. opening the car) without setting the alarm off and thus deadlocking the car. Essentially, for one of the best cars I've ever driven that cost me peanuts to buy, ÂŁ300, it seems crazy to spend another ÂŁ150+ to salvage a Pektron from another facelift 45 :(

I can live without the rear wiper, boot release and I'm sure the front fogs too; my dad's Suzuki Carry van had neither of these (I think!) and he seems to get along fine without them! But he's a no-nonsense sort of guy.

Okay, so to wrap it up, the one from the TF will swap straight over, the central locking WILL work, the alarm WILL be deactivated, and I can drive the car absolutely fine apart from a few electrical niggles that may or may not work, such as the rear wiper / front fogs?

Bangernomics at its finest - a reluctance to spend money when I don't have to. Or should it be recycling? :p

In any case, all I was really concerned about whether or not it'd get me into the car and I can drive; can you confirm this? I don't want to be stuck with a fob that has a tendency of packing up that's all :)

Thanks so much all :)
