All for not wearing my ******* seat belt...

Has the police gone mad??? . i mean while i was getting done i pointed out about 12 cars that drove past without there seat belts on...

seat belts can be just as bad as the window, should be personal choice.

My mate past away with crushed ribs after hitting a car head on at 50mph from a seat belt...

I no i always were my seatbelt, i drove about 100 yards with out as the police turned into my estate, god i walked to my house just to get my liscense for god sake and its easier to get out my drive with seatbelt off, if you saw my drive you would understand lol...

I was putting it on as police turned in so he thought i saw him and then was putting it on?

Typical

Thats ****ty mate, I usually have mine on but ive been pulled before wasnt wearing it properly, ie under my arm they tried saying i wasnt wearing it at all but I just argued with them that i had witnesses in the car and was not gonna let them fine me. Surprised on the points, not known that before

Yea but i new i had it off and was generally just putting it on like i do everyday as the police stopped and i put window down,

He said is your seat belt on and i said "just doing it no mate", then he was like pull over and step out the vehicle.... what an ass, i do this as im driving to junction about 100 yard from my house after getting out my drive everyday,

statistics show, people wearing seatbelts in head on collisions have a much higher chance of surviving the impact than without one. at least your mate was kept in one peice though. and seatbelts can do more harm then good at times, but its a fact of driving unfortunately. and the cops are only trying to keep us all safe.

Seat belts are there for a reason, if you want to drive on the road you have to abide by the laws, the saying goes 'if you can't do the time, don't do the crime' (or something along those lines).

And i'm sure your mate would have also died from flying through the windscreen at 50mph being shredded up by the glass, and hitting the opposing vehicle with extreme force aswell...

It's one of the first things you learn when learning to drive. If not the first.

Always put your seatbelt on when you get in the vehicle. If you get in the car on a Driving test and turn the ignition on without putting your seatbelt on, it's an instant fail.

you sure its points?

  • a non-endorsable ticket is mostly £30 and no points on your licence (some offences are £60 e.g. no seatbelt)
  • an endorsable ticket is mostly £60 and three points on your licence (some offences attract a higher fine and 6 points e.g. insurance £200 and 6 points).

I think that you're right Dr. The fine for wearing a seatbelt increased from £30 to £60 last year but it's a non-endorsable fine and points aren't issued.

If you fail to belt up when you begin your journey you are breaking the law and are running the risk of getting caught. North Yorkshire Police have been running operation 'Anvil' for quite sometime and it has been very successful so far.... as you found out.

A small tip for the future, never call a Police officer "mate" when you get stopped, it doesn't wash with them, they're not your mate and it annoys them. Just be polite, especially if you've broken the law, and hope that the officer is in a good mood.

unfortunately my dad does exactly this thing lol

he's the casualty reduction officer so gives seatbelt tickets/spedding tickets everyday. he's seen what it does to bodies when they dont have belts on and ive seen it too

when igiv ppl lifts i dont start engine till they all strapped in

Just like to say. You should ALWAYS start the car BEFORE putting you seat belt on.
90% of car fires happen when you first start the engine.
So if you already have your seat belt on when a fire starts its a very difficult position to be in.
But I do believe a seat belt should be put on before the car is moved. Once mines on it doesn't come off till I park up.
My 2p worth lol

There's alot of laws i disagree with, the 70MPH speed limit on a empty duel carriageway/motorway being one of them. I don't understand why you wouldn't wear a seatbelt though? As soon as mine is on, i forget about it, it's not a nuisance.

....and it says where to send your licence for your points on the ticket does it lol ..... ignorance is bliss.;)

You deserved the fine!!! harsh as it seems the way YOU describe it,but seeing the salvage and scrap wrecks of many accidents blah blah blah

Thats life, you got stealth taxed,no biggy drama really.

I was told that I could take my seatbelt off when reversing on my test. My shoulder id screwed from being in an accident while wearing a seatbelt. I have been pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt but was let off because I was free wheeling down a hill while putting it on after stopping at a cash point.

I do wear a seatbelt most of the time, but for short trips I dont bother. I never worn it when I was delivering, getting in and out of a van a lot is a pain with a seatbelt on.

I thought it was just a 3 pointer for no seatbelt though.

First off, sorry for your loss... I've buried a couple of my mates now, one thru an RTA injury and the other from Asthma. I know the pain, but......

Assuming the other vehicle was doing the same speed then thats like his car hitting a brick wall at 100mph.

Nobody is gonna be walking away from that sort of kinetic exchange - anyone see the Fifth Gear when they converted 2 full size cars to R/C and then crashed them into one another at 50mph???

A proper mess that made, should be mandatory primetime viewing - would slow a lot of folks down, I reckon...
