My Rover 220 Coupe is a good looking car (well I think it is), but can anyone help me sort out the handling/ ride?
It's seems like a very nervous car, wheelspins at about 2500rpm in the wet, and is generally fiddigity. I've checked the springs and dampers (standard ones) and they appear to be ok, and the tyres have plenty of tread. They are Continentals at the moment, would a different manufacturer improve the ride, as the car seems to be less sporty than my old Metro and MGB GT. Any help in getting my car sorted would be appreciated

Eddie, I agree, the Rover 200 Coupe is a really nice looking car, even now, all this time after it was launched.

Believe it or not, the R220 Coupe Turbo was my dream car for a few years in College! Then along came the MGF and that replaced it! :)

I still remember sitting in an MGF at the motorshow one year thinking, yeah - one day I'll have one of these. Just shows, dreams can come true sometimes :D

Thanks for the help.

I've always been a Rover fan, the 220 Coupe is fast, but I still think my old MGB GT was more fun- for a start you could get the tail sliding out instead of the front pushing wide=P
Sounds like you could do with a MGF/TF ;) Great fun on a slightly damp road :D :D

I was thinking of changing to a 218 VVC, as my my 220 is getting on a bit (it's a 93K with 84000 miles), but I've just had it serviced and for the first time since I've owned it it's not too noisy on the motorway. Usually I find there is lots of wind noise coming from the sunroof. Do any other coupe owners have this problem?

one word... koni

hi
i have a rover 220 turbo coupe my self and i know of the handling problems..
but since i have added the alloys, the suspension, it seems to be the best thing about for me.
i had a koni dampening kit, which i paid ÂŁ350 for (rrp near ÂŁ500, went to max power show.. execellent.. apart from the pocket..) and it lowered it 35 mm and boy can you tell the difference...
my car produces more than the standard 220 turbo coupe did do, but i think it still needs more :D it no just sticks to the road and you know its not going nowhere unless you tell it.. its lovely :D
oh and as for the insurance, im paying no more than ÂŁ800 fully comp for mine and im only 21 with 4 years no claims, protected too..
hope i have (sort of) helped...

I've got a coupe turbo, Boge springs and top adj gas Konis, but if I was choosing again I'd get oil dampers as gas ones can be a tad harsher than oil ones over the little bumps grids etc.

I think the best mod for the front end has got to be Powerflex front tie-bar bushes, these tighten the front end up really well.

I do track days and the car handles well, but can get slightly twitchy at the back if doing fast sweeping bends. But you do have confidence in it.

What about using the springs/dampers from an MG
