Hiya, problem with my car not starting. I've taken the distributer cap off and the ignition coil, and found the outlet "prong" (don't know hat it's called) to be burnt and snapped off. looked in the ignition coil hole and there was burn residue.

I cleaned all this out and found that some of the plastic had melted. does anyone know what sort of fault this could indicate?

haven't been able to replace the coil yet, but everything else has, so should start after the new coil is in, but i don't want the problem to happen agin.

could this have been caused by a faulty earth connection?

I've replaced the ignition module, distributor cap, and rotor arm. the fuel pump is still working (i can hear it pump) and the rotor arm is turning over on the starter. the car is just not firing.
