Hello all,
Im still unsure as to whether to get a 214 (bubble shape) or wait for a 216.
Im waiting for a 3 dr black 216 but they seem to be very rare.
What im looking for is speed/acceleration - as far as im aware on paper the 216 is only 0.9secs faster 0-60 and 3mph at top speed. Is this completly true?
I have asked before and got the idea that the 216 actually is much faster 0-60, but i have also been told that with a few mods the 214 can be faster.
Does anybody know if there really is a major difference in speed or are the figures on paper correct.
Has anyone raced the two? if so what was the result?
Many Thanks

ive gone from a 4DR 214Sei to a 216 Coupe. Both k-series.

Dont know about the racing bit but i can DEFO tell you going from my 216 back down to my 214 LOL......... SLOW AS A SNAIL... required more gear changes on the 214 to get anywhere obviously the ratios are diffrent..

but i would say get the 1.6 you wont really understand until you go from a 1.6 back DOWN to a 1.4 :2c:

You will wait a very long time for a black MkIII as I don't believe one was made.

Closest will be an Anthracite one, but it's not quite black.

But definately get a 1.6.

The main problem is time, ive been waiting to find the 216 and think ill be waiting a lot longer, is it really worth the wait?

If the figures ive got are true (above) then it isnt and ill get the 214, for the sake of 0.9 seconds 0-60.

Are they both the coupe's though?
Would that be much different to the bubble?
Or are they the same engine? with different chassis

One was a 4 Door family wagon, and the other a coupe.

I know weight plays abit of a factor here but ive also ragged my bros MK2 coupe hatch about... same kinda thing.

They are both the ROVER k-series engines... will be the same with your bean/bubble.

I know im going over covered ground but i need to make az big decision.

Ive just read back through some old posts, one says the main difference is engine flexibility and uphill, if this is the case ill settle for the 214 for now and mod it and at the same time keep looking for the 216, all the exterior mods should be able to be swapped over right? ie Front Splitter, Alloys, Side Skirts, Spoiler etc?

I got a 214, I haven't driven a 216.. But I did test a Pug 306 1.6 and I seriously didn't see a mass difference, the economy on the 1.4 is quite good and I find it pulls well right through the range and have no problem cruising at 90+ (Private land ofcourse)
Then again, like I said, I haven't driven the 216..

go for the 216, you'll regret going for the 214 as its not as nippy if your interested in acceleration, you'll notice it on motorways, the 1.4 will struggle a little compared to the 1.6. Both great engines but the 1.6 is the one, plus the fact the insurance group is pretty low at 7 and the 214 at 6. So not a major difference.

i drive a honda 1.6 (mk2) according to parkers (**** site i know) the bubble with the 1.6 k series is faster, and i pull away from 214's quite easily once out of first gear.... if the 1.6k is faster then the honda then you would notice quite a differance. keep looking is what i say, or test drive a 1.6 in any colour, give it some stick and see if you can feel a differance compared to your 214.
