Hello from Estonia!
Traded my Saab 900 MY 96 2,0T 240hp for a 200VI.
Saab had astonishing acceleration, some mods(exhaust, intake, MBC, stage3 ecu, etc)
Good car going straight and on higher speeds. Not good in turns. A LOT of torque steer. Spin on 3rd and a bit on 4th on track.
The VI- Very rare car here in Estonia. Not more than 5 cars in all the country.
This Rover 200vi is the most FUN car I´ve owned. I mean handling is superb compared what I´ve experienced before.
.
Entering corners with huge speed, even with bone stock setting. Never had that fast car in corners. And it has FWD !
I cant imagine what it does with KONI-s and -30mm struts.wow
Driving position comfortable, steering wheel sits well in hands, gearchanges are rather ok too.
This rover has a sweeeet revvy engine. upto 7200rpm. not as revvy as honda civic vtec, but I bet VI can keep up with civic 160hp vtec :)
My friends who have tried the car now are amazed how it performs and so am I. Girlfriend is happy, for she will be driving it daily.
This saturday first trackday then. great expectations:)
This forum has been very useful already.
Main fear is ofcourse HGF. Keeping my eye on the temp gauge all the time and checking oil stick.
The car has run 90k miles nad is in very good condition. Some dents on body, but very well kept interior.
Roadnoise is disturbing, but upgrading speakers these days. Front door speakers and a small sub.
A pic of car:

Lets see how it performs here in winter on snow and ice :)

regards

:welcome:

The 200Vi is a great little car and entertaining to drive. ;)
As you are already aware, the head gasket is the main concern on these cars. As long as you service the car regularly, drive it steady until the engine warms up and keep an eye on your coolant level you should be fine.

I hope that you find the forum useful and a fun place to be. :)

Tried it on a track. A lot of torque steer in corners. very soft suspension on original setting. Will modify with KONis and lowering springs soon. On street it feels quick, but on track not so :) Maybe too high pressure in tyres :S
Body roll was unexpectedly big. Improvements soon to be made.

A guy who modded civic vti with proper shocks and lowering improved time 4 seconds on a 800m track.
