Fuel pump running?? Check fuses

 

Is it a VVC engine or an MPI?

If it is the MPI then it could be the distributor cap and/or arm - worth a look and are cheap to replace.

It could be the HT leads too, I had one going recently. At worst it could be a starter motor.

Also, turn on the ignition and listen for a whurring sound behind you, that should be the fuel pump. If not then you could have a fuelling issue.

 

I believe it is a MPi

It was running fine last night, has some trouble cold starting but it was running and then literally stalled as I was going along and wouldn't start....

 

I replied to your other thread on the same problem this morning?!?!

Did you investigate any of the suggestions?

 

Let’s do this methodically. Crank the motor a few times and then take out the plugs and examine them. Are they wet with petrol? If not, no fuel is being delivered. If yes. Clean, dry out and replace. Try again. If still no start Check the HT side for sparks and correct distribution. (cap and rotor arm) Take out the king lead from the distributer and check for spark from coil. Assuming the car is a distributer model.

This evening I returned to check the pressure and check the rotor arm and fuel pump yada yada

I then thought even tho the cam belt was changed I will just have a little look
to my surprise the cam belt was still intact but the tensioner has failed

I bought this as a bit of a summer fun again like I did last year and am not 100% sure I am willing to start paying out the hundreds to replace the cam belt tensioner and check to see if it has bent any valves..

anyone got a suggestion?

Oh Bugger. Thats not good news. Call one of the mobile mech's for an opinion? It still may be an easy fix.

 

If it was me. I would get a new tentioner, and time it up. If you can wind it over ok with a spanner on the crank pulley you have a sporting chance of it running again.

 

Is there a way to tell if the valves are bent or do you think I should just buy the tensioner and just go for it? The engine was ticking over with the clutch down when i think it went, i dont wanna waste my time doing it then it not work

I think I am going to do the work and replace the tensioner, It doesnt seem a massive amount of work and I think I could probably get it done by the weekend!

I have never done this before but I have always been very good with mechanics by just watching and doing, I am currently clueing myself up with the workings of it and I feel pretty confident that I can do it
