ZT wing mirror and gearshift

I had the wing mirror on my first ever ZT (03) knocked off by a charming passer by overnight. Got a replacement off ebay but when it arrived it was the wrong one, ie bullet type. As its the right colour and it was such a hassle just to find that one i was wondering if it will be possible to fit (I havent taken the door apart yet - thought i would check on here first). They are the electric type although i wouldnt object to manually adjusting mirror.

Also, a couple of weeks after i bought the car in October last year the gear box went very stiff on a long drive and for about 5 mins was very hard to engage gears. It was fine then until i put it into garage (MG Rover specialist)for other work and when i picked up the car they said that it had happened again and that they noticed a small leak on the underside and said the slave cylinder was prob on way out and woiuld need sorting fairly soon. The next 24 hours gears were quite stiff but since then and 3 months later no hont of stiffness. Am i sat on a ticking time bomb that is just takin a while or could there have been another explanation? Thanks

Hi arj1980
Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm interested in your second point as I've been meaning to post a similar experience and see whether anyone else using these boards had come across this situation.

About 4 weeks ago I had the same experience whilst driving back up North for Christmas in my ZT-T CDTi (03) which I've had since Sept 07. I noticed on the drive up when selecting gears it was definately becoming harder to do so. We stopped off to have a coffee half way up and when we went to set off again I couldn't get the stick into 1st or Reverse at all, 2-5 were selectable although an effort, unfortunately I'd driven into a parking bay with a concrete wall in front of me :(

I turned the engine off and had a play with the clutch pedal and selecting gears it was fine, travel on pedal etc felt normal. Turned the engine on and again struggled to get it into 1st or reverse.

In the end I turned off the engine, selected reverse, restarted the engine and reversed out. Once out though I still couldn't stick it into 1st, so it was straight into 2nd.

We were still a good hour from my parents and had our 4 month old daughter with us, as it was Christmas I thought I could be sat here sometime waiting for the AA (if they actually could have done anything anyway) so I decided to risk driving off in 2nd and hopefully not coming to too many deadstops.

Anyway about 3 or 4 miles down the road when changing gear it was like the whole gearbox had become loose again with no stiffness, I could select all of the gears no problem without any sign of resistance.

In the weeks that have followed since I haven't had any problems although once or twice I have noticed a hint of resistance.

I've been meaning to book it in at a local garage to have it looked at but much like arj1980 I would be keen to hear if anyone else has experienced this and whether this is a sign of something more serious or a one off something getting its knickers in a twist?

Cheers
Damian

So long as you replace the whole assembly including the door mount I believe it will be a direct swap. The later type mirror that you originally had was a Rover 25 part with a door mounting changed to suit the existing Rover 75 (ZT) mounting points. It was done as a cost saving, but actually improved visibility quite a lot with little detriment to appearance. A rare "win-win".
