NO it does not drive hence requires a new engine

 

A new engine will be in the region of £3k, although you should get a better deal if you find one from a breaker or spares company. It may be worthwhile trying roverbreakers to see if they have any in stock. (www.roverbreakers.com)

Filings in the oil indicates a blown crank - not all that common but does happen on these if the engine is overreved. Sounds as if the driver liked to use the power in it.

Where is the car located? Just curious in case you decide against having it......

 

Be cautious though mate, a blown engine could mean he has been ragging it, so look out for the seals, dampers, springs, dodgy brakes, steering etc.

 

Where did you see it? What reg is it? How many miles has it done? Is it real? etc. etc.

You need to find out if it is for sale and take it from there. If you can get an engine for £1700, and the buying price is realistic, then I would go for it!

Would be worth the effort in the end, as long as you can do the engine swap yourself.

£4k they're 'avin a larf! Knock them down to around £2.5-3k, no more. If they don't play ball, leave your phone number and walk away. Bet you'll get a call, no-one will pay the asking price, it's a dead duck.

Like others have mentioned, you can pick them up from £5500 upwards.

From experience I would go for the 190, i found the 160 reaches the rev limiter far to easily, and is underpowered. Don't let that put you off, I am speaking as a former hotrodder! (taking a sabbatical)

 

What would it cost to fully re-build a KV6 unit then? It is i would think uneconomical to even consider, but the thought of stripping and re-building a 6pot K-series, does sound rarther an interesting project IMO!
