i found a small pool of water in my spare wheel well on saturday.
any ideas where it has come from and what i can do to prevent it from returning?

I've seen another current thread on this that sets out solutions. iirc cjmillsnun started it.

Water cure

I had this in my ZS 5 door. The problem was cured by adding some more sealent to the inner seams in the boot. No problems since

 

Same here. The N/S rear wheel arch was poorly sealed and required more underbody sealant. The spray off the wheel goes straight up the joint that is poorly sealed & into the boot. However, if water is getting in your boot whilst stationary then this is not your problem.
