Pleeese mods can you leave this as "General MGR chat" for a day or so until I can get an answer? ta

In my thread on the Z-related forum

http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=66991

Help please - Length of ZS 5 door?

I asked (without getting an answer yet)

Looking at MGR's own site they say 5 door = 4 door at 4.54m. (which I make just about 179 in).

Now I know for a fact that the 4 door is significantly longer than the 5 door.

So all you 5 door owners out there, what length is your car?

Any help appreciated

4.4 metres IIRC... the saloon looks a lot longer, but a lot of it is simply in the design whereby the boot is a more prounounced extension of the car.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks John, I know I have fitted a 45 hatch into my garage (which also accommodated my 400 Tourer) but was a bit surprised to find the ZS saloon significantly longer than that.

Now the Tourer was 172" and I make 440cm just under 174", so the difference between this sort of length and 454cm is significant and crucial if one wishes to avoid extending the garage!

Do you happen to know if the 440cm is the same as the Rover?

The ZS Saloon is 4540mm long, whereas the ZS Hatchback is 4386mm long.

They are both 1923mm wide (Including Door Mirrors), and 1386mm tall.

Strangely, the Rover 45 Hatchback is 4390mm long, whereas the 45 Saloon is the same at 4540mm long.
There is more luggage capacity on the saloon than the hatch. Wacky

You get 3 real seabelts in the saloon rather than the lapstrap in the centre with the hatch.

Saloons are stiffer - --- Comments?

As I commented on the other identical thread,

Not sure whether there is any major differences between the Mk1 and Mk2 ZS. According to the brouchure of the Mk1 that I still have, 4 door = 4.53m and 5 door = 4.37m. I am sad enough to go and measure my Mk1 ZS 5 door = 4.33m.

Test drove both hatchback and saloon in 120 form and found the saloon a little sluggish. I have sensed that the saloon is slightly heavier?

Happy Motoring :)
The weights puzzled me too. 4dr & 5dr...same width, different length.... but according to the paperwork on the MGR website I read, both the same weight exactly. hmmm.
Yep, there's about 6" in it. As I found out when I bought a saloon backbox for my 5dr! (It was going cheap at a local National Tyres)

Still 2minutes work with a hacksaw to shorten the tailpipe by 6" and it fitted straight on.

Thus the saloon's extra length is from the rear wheel arch back - ie more overhang.

Thanks EssexMGR.

I went to a dealer's today (tumbleweed city!) to get a brochure which confirms the dimensions you give.

Would guess the extra weight in the 5 door is due to the framework around hatch aperture.
Actually 4 door is assumed to be heavier due to the extra length.
