pretty simple really, you need to take the interior boot lid trim off, 2 screws and a few clips for each side piece... half a million clips for the middle bit.
then there's 3 bolts under the middle bit you will have just fought off, undo these, carefully withdraw the spoiler from the car and disconnect the wiring (should be a connector that becomes visible as the spoiler comes off)
then it should just be a case of undoing the screws on the underside of the brake light, and remove forementioned brake light....
Haynes
refitting is reverse of removal... although you may bleed and swear at different stages

haynes gives a general idea for stuff, but is overall quite poo, i don't use mine except for the occasional bit of reference.

the clips under the trim are best removed with a long flat screwdriver, carefully prise back the plastic and get the blade of the screwdriver under the edge of the clip... twist the screwdriver and the clip should pop out, be careful or you could lose some paint.

have a look at this, it almost made me wet myself.

Lol that is some funny sh|t.
The HAYNES description is for the 200 and early 25 Brakelights, later 25's and ZR's use a sealed LED brake light unit and it has no exposed screws, you have to drill access points !!!

Remove the spoiler and disconect the loom as mentioned above, on the base towards the back are 2 indentations, drill 5mm holes there, be carful not to poke the drill through too hard, using a Phillips Screwdriver undo the 2 screws and the unit will be free to remove but you will have fun locating the wiring for the new one lol, once fittted silicone the holes you drilled !!!
I changed my red one for a clear one it wasn't a hard job. Once the trim on the inside of the boot lid is removed the spoiler fixings are easy to get at.

Once you have the spoiler off you will find there are 3 screws on the brake lamp undo them and pull firmly. The lamp is taped on as well as screwed so it may take some force to remove it.

I would tape a draw wire to the connector on the old brake lamp before you remove it from the spoiler. Then pull the wire through so you have wire sticking out both ends of the spoiler once the lamp is removed.

Then you can tape the new lamps connector to the draw wire and pull it through the spoiler. If you don't use the draw wire you could spend some time feeding the new wire through the spoiler.
thanks guys, great advice as always.

Our 54 plate ZR has exposed screws.
'04 ZR with exposed screws, facing down to the screen.
i've not actually quoted the haynes manual anywhere... never even looked at it for this, just liked the quote i used.

Mines the same, but with the 2 screws removed, the light unit still wouldnt budge, have you at any time removed yours?
my 03 plate had 3 screws too, aswell as plenty of sticky tape to go with it. Once the screws are out, was a case of getting a knife inbetween the light and spoiler to praise it apart.
