Hi all,

Just wondered if someone can help us out, I have just bought the wife a 2002 plate MGZR 1.4 5 door, it has an alarm and I think it has an immobiliser but I need to know what type they are. I am having problems with the insurance on it as my insurance company is saying that they need documentation about the alarm system, which I though would not be with the car as it's a factory fitted system. If anyone could offer some help/advice it would be much appreciated.

It should have the certification in the last few pages of the owners handbook IIRC.

Alarms, they leave ringing in my ears

Hi there,

Just spoken to the people that we have bought the car of as we have not picked it up yet and they have checked in the back of the owners book and cant find any reference to the alarm type. Just spoken with a place that fits alarms and even they say it shouldn't be a problem, its factory fitted and that is the end of it and most of the time you dont get any documentation as it just comes with the car. Not sure where to go with this now bar looking at other insurance companies which I would rather not do as I will loose 6 months no claims! Can anyone else help, please, Tress

Just tell them it's fitted with the standard factory immobiliser/alarm. They should know what it is on their database. In any case I think it is CAT 2.

Have a look at the link below. If your car was made after Aug 02 it is CAT 2. If not it isn't rated.
