Once i get my car back (long story) :( . This is going on:D

I'm in the process of creating a fibreglass mould for a duct to attach to the cold air feed under the car. Also a heat shield for the filter, will take some pics when it's fitted.

Hi thanks for your comments.

I got mine from am I allowed to say  oh well Halfords!
It took him a while to find it and it was i assume halfords part number:-

item: 957639 Part Description: Unclassified (Parts Only)

and it was ÂŁ100.56

Hope this helps, I should be fitting it tomorrow. But not the fibre glass air scoop as am undecided now on the shape, plus im thinking of finding a scrap bonnet and putting and air vent on that. dunno yet!!!!!

Does anyone know if the rover bonnet is the same as the ZR bonnet? because i imagine it will be easier sourcing one of these and what year rover bonnet could i use, if there is any changes.

Jesus! A ton for a K&N?

Mine was about 60 quid. I can only assume yours is significantly uprated/different/gold plated.

AFAIK, the 25 bonnet is different to that on the Mk3 200, (which I assume is what you were asking about). Have a look at some pictures, with particular reference to the hump/curve around the grille, which is enlarged on the 25/ZR.

About the Filter price the filter is a new one for the MG ZR 160 had i got a normal 1.8:p the price would of been ÂŁ75 ish according to K&N's site.

Yeah I am/maybe looking for a ZR bonnet , as i intend cutting a hole in it and don't want to do it to my original bonnet.....just in case it doesn't work out. Which is more than likely:D

Ok here is a pic of my recently fitted filter:D

SOUNDS AWESOME! and accelleration is much smoother and quicker noticable:D. I have an idea to get a sound clip that i may try and do !

I also took loads of pics when installing it and will do a right up soon.

Hi ya

Just wanted to point something out about your intended cold air mould. Ignore me if you want but Renault espaces used to have cold air feeds at the bottom of the car and lots of them that were bought in england ended up with broken engines coz the air ducts sucked up all the nice water left on the roads by the rain we so frequently have in our fair country. Later models now have air ducts further up engine bay.

Just a warning but think carfully about where you're going to put it.

Yeah I thought that too but have since read that, in order to benifit from RAM air you need to seal it in a box, something to with resonance of the engine sucking in the air and some of it flowing back when the intake valve closes.

I have decided since to just leave the cold air pipe as is, but may still consider a bonnet scoop, just have to find something tastfull looking.

Thanks for all your info guys and gals(just in case)

Cheeky

Have you left the original box still in place (bottom half obviously).

Are you not bothered about voiding the warranty.

I've got a ZR160 on it's way, should get it the 3rd of March, can't decide if i should get one along with a decent exhaust

Carl : I have removed the whole fliter box assembly. It doesn't take very long to fit so if my car needs to go in I can change it back in about 30mins give or take a bit. It took me about and hour and a half to fit because I have taken pics and notes along the way to make a tutorial. Should be online befor the weekend is over.

Dr Dave: no the filter doesn't come with a bracket at the moment it seems solid enough but it is just held in place by a piece of rubber tubing. Ok that sounds bad but its quite safe. Although if you drive hard I could imagine it may break eventually. a bracket would be a good idea and with the ait box removed, your left with the old bracket mounting hole so something could be rigged up there.

When my site is running would it be possible to have a link on here compliment would be returned of course.

I'd imagine warrenty wise they wouldn't look on it too lightly. I'm taking that risk and besides if my car goes back in soon then i'll replace it it wont take long.

I fitted the filter as per K&N's instructions which showed the total removal of the standard air box. So i cant tell u if there would be a gain by leaving it on, I think space would be too tight if u left the old box in and tried to fit the cold air pipe.

Fitted as standard there is a huge difference. Maybe not in speed or acceleration but is noticable, it's smoother much more willing to rev and sounds good :D

I'm not 100% certain of gained BHP but i'd guess about 5bhp. The car certainly feels better, but with out putting it on a rolling road you can't be 100% sure. Who knows maybe its lost some power as some people claim. It certainly doesn't feel that way as in my opinion loosing 5bhp would be much more noticable than gaining 5bhp. Very much worth the money if only for the noise it makes :D

Oooooookay, where to start.
I'm new to the board, but have looked at changing the air filter aswell.

That fibre glass mould you wanted to do? I'll have to look the site up again, also because it's what I'm going to have... but it exists as a whole kit, with a carbon fibre mould.

Right, from zero... they have the rubber to the cone, like you do, but around the cone they've got a carbon fibre cover... that has a cold air feed at the bottom. Also the air is taken in backwards, thus creating a special air pattern inside... increasing the power and accelerator response even further. And lastly.. it's designed for the ZR. Now... if only I could find that DAMNED thing back.

I've always said.. finding something on the net, is easy... finding it back.. is another thing.

Will keep you updated if I find it again. *crosses fingers*
