hi mate as far as i'm aware the short answer is no, if i remeber correctly the majority of the interns are different and the oil feeds are a different setup on a standard 1.8. i think u could do it with some modding but i'm not totally sure.
Hi all.

On the subject of these engines and head gaskets going, i have an acquaintance who has had HGF twice in 3 months on his ZT 1.8, non turbo.

I don't think it was repaired properly, thats my opinion, but the upshot of it is, the engine is 'shot'

06 plate, 56000 miles, the guy loves the car.

What he is looking for now is a replacement engine, preferably with the uprated head gasket work done etc etc.

Does anybody know of one going out there , perhaps from a write off, mot failure etc etc?

If you are able to help, please let me know so i can pass some good news onto him.

Many thanks,

Dave.

It's been discussed at length before. Do a search for details. The upshot seems to be that it's not really worth trying. The differences are too expensive to sort out, so using the genuine article is TWTG.

I believe the block is the same perhaps with the exception of an oil return hole so if it is only the liners that have dropped, you could swap all the components over from one to the other.

If the liners have dropped, the chances are that the head will be soft and scrap too.

When i brought the car it had a hole in the piston which took out the liner. so i replaced them, was fine until i drove it down the motorway and the thermostat stuck closed and cooked it.
I sold a good turbo engine from a tourer I bought to break for doors and leather ect to repair my own car. from memmory I think I sold it for £400 to a member on here{over a year ago now} what is an average asking price for these engines today ?? just interested dont have one to sell sorry, Tam
