Hi,

I've got a 99 rover 214 and recently the alarm has been going off ever 10-15mins, and at 4 in the morning it's not good to say the least.

Ok so using the key to lock the car diables the interior alarm is my understanding? After this the alarm still goes off so I'm assuming it's the door sensors that are faulty.

My question is where are these bloody things so I can see if there is any rubbish caught in them etc. How much work is involved in getting to these?

Well there is not much to clean.

When you undo it watch the wire as otherwise you will be stripping trim off to get it back through the hole.

Use some wire wool on the screw hole and on the copper contacts on the track of the switch.

I dont think it will be your problem though.

My guess is either the tailgate loom is shorting or the alarm unit is damaged and needs replacing.

I diasgree, i would put my money on a dodgy door switch. (any the tailgate wiring loom could be another one!)

Does the courtesy light work when you open the doors? Does the buzzer sound when you leave lights on and open drivers door?

Coupe switchs are the Honda plastic ones which tend to snap are they not.

They are a known issue but the ones used on the Mk3 are good old Austin Rover ones and are so simple they hardly ever go wrong.

If they do go wrong then the alarm wont pick a signal from them anyway, so it wont cause any issue.

really? I didn't know that! All this time I have been living a lie!

I guess once honda's influence was out of the way with the 200/25 etc they went back to thier own parts bin.

Thanks for that - Its time to look at that tailgate wiring then! lol.

Yep people dont always notice. The early Austin switchs are the spring loaded one's and have copper and brass contacts.

So even if they are really rusty it's only on the surface and dont normally give issues.

The bonnet one could be the problem but I rekon you have hit the nail on the head with the tailgate loom.
