Hi Guys, hope you can help me, my MAF has gone in the car had no power untill last night. was driving home last night and my car lost all reving power and all of a sudden took off like a bolt of lightening...i know thats the MAF completly gone now and I need a new one will be ordering it tonight, but now when I go to take off in first gear my car just stalls (only happened three times so far) i have to keep my foot on the accelerator untill it actually decides to rev but after i get it above 2000 revs its fine i can stop at lights ect and take off with out a problem, just seems to be that first time. would this have anything to do with the MAF giving up on me last night because it was fine before that and my car is booked in on tuesday for MOTPLEASE HELP

Unplug the MAF sensor and see if the problem is "cured" you'll get a rev limit at 4k rpm but otherwise the car should drive normally.
but now when I go to take off in first gear my car just stalls (only happened three times so far)
Just a thought - Does the car run like a bag of spanners for a few seconds before it cuts out? (sometimes you can try and fight your way out of it, but doesn't always work).

Usually happens only on agressive take-offs when the engines cold?

If so, then it's fairly common and not something that really there is a solution to except to be a bit kinder ;)
its only started happening when the MAF went last night
Yep, have the same problem in my 25 MAF is completely dead :(

However i bought a MAF from an Opel Astra G II 1.7d – BOSCH 0 281 002 180
The inside life of the Astra is the same like in our Rover :) And a half less expensive :)

What was the year of the Astra?

so your saying the maf from an opel/vauxhal astra 1.7d also works in our beloved rovers but costs half as much? AND its genuine bosch? any more info would be brilliant as my maf has died and i need a new one. one for half the price sounds good to me
I don't know which year :) I ordered it with this Bosch number BOSCH 0 281 002 180 :) But it should be a 1998 or 2000 Vauxhall i guess. Wikipedia says: The Astra G model was build in 1998 to 2004 :)

I have one year warranty on the Astra MAF and it is an orig. Bosch one.
To screw the MAF out form the Astra casing a Torx 5 with a hole in the middle is needed.
Hope this helps.
is the astra one working well? any differences to Fuel consumption or power etc?
BOSCH 0 281 002 180
Corsa 1.7DTi
Astra 1.7 DTi
Astra 2.0 DTLi
Vectra/Zafira 2.0DT
Omega...same story....2.0DTi

...and so forth ;)
Just found this on an Alfa site whilst searching the Bosch number. Seems there may well be a far cheaper solution out there for those suffering the effects of MAF.

I recently found some interesting info on MAF sensors for the v6, and thought i'd delve deeper as i'm a tight ****.
After posting the question about other vehicles using the same sensor, alot of people told me it was'nt the case, especially some specialists. But after talking to speedmaster on here, and running his list of part numbers though my local parts supplier, i bought a MAF sensor for a vauxhal for £58. Then took the sensor out and checked the sensor number, (not the maf tube number) and as i was told, it was exactly the same as the original part number taken from my v6. So even though the vauxhal MAF tube was significantly smaller than the v6's the sensors were exactly the same but a fraction of the cost of a so called v6 maf assembly which i've seen for £185.
Since fitting it 2 weeks ago i can report no issues at all. The fuel consumption is better and the car still goes like stink, i did do a ecu and throttle reset at the time just to make sure it was all starting with fresh settings. And the main prob of cutting out has disappeared.

So if anyone needs a new MAF for a v6 i would recommend ordering part number 0 281 002 180 as this was the cheapest from the list that speedmaster supplied me.

So thanks very much for speedmasters help and hope this helps other V6 owners

cheers

I've read further through their thread and it would appear that the new sensor has to be removed from the plastic tube and swapped with the dead one in the original tube. Wonder if this would be the same for our Rovers. I've added the link should any body be interested in looking through it.

E-bay link to one of these MAF's surely this can't be a solution it would surely be to good to be true.

Hang on, is the V6 MAF the same as the L series diesel? If not, why is the V6 in this thread? :p
I've removed the dead MAF from my 45 Diesel to discover it has a different part number from the above.
My number is F00C 2G2 030

I don't want to buy a new one until I'm sure what I should be buying. There's no saying the one I removed is the one it should have!

HELP!
