A couple of us have moved on recently to bigger / more powerful or simply newer cars.

My shortlist is below:

I'll still be keeping mine even if I go for any of these. So 2 sports cars, company car and the ZR (if it stays) will be in the household... between two of us. :rvd:

Heres my shortlist.. in the car, perks, cons and price format

Honda S2000 2.0:
6.2 to 60, Looks, Reliability, Reputation, not aging badly. Braking power.
Insurance costs, MPG worse than TVR and Nissan. Purchase Expense. Ageing Car. Apparent numb steering…..
ÂŁ4000-ÂŁ7000+

Nissan 350z (Conv.)
5.7/6.1 to 60. Looks good, Nissan reliability, still being made. Name. Braking power. Ages well
That rear end! Cheaper examples modified.
ÂŁ5000-8000+

TVR Chimaera 4.0 / 4.0 HC
POWERRR, Looks, Interior, Handling. Better MPG than expected. Timeless. Cheapest to insure – wtf?!?!
Maintenance (Do I want something worse than an F?), Reliability (see previous). Cheaper examples will probably need restoring.
ÂŁ6000+

Porsche Boxster
Looks good, performance ok on 3.2. MPG good. Porsche Name. Ages well, timeless name and still modern looks.
Not a 911. Is it really good looking? Stigma. Reliability questionable. Service Costs. Highest of all insurance.
ÂŁ4500+

BMW Z4 2.5
Looks good, performance ok on 3.2. MPG good. Porsche Name. Ages well, timeless name and still modern looks.. Good MPG
It’s a BMW.
ÂŁ4500+

Audi TT (mk2)
Excellent looks, Diesel option still pokey. Speed & MPG
Its an audi, only cocks drive an audi. Not “sporty” enough on the road.
ÂŁ6000+

All my other cars are bigger and more powerful but my MG is my toy car that I play with and pull bits off and stick bits on, so it will probably be worthless when i'm finished with it, to all intents and purposes.

When that time comes i'll see what is available, but it will probably be a small-medium sized hatchback with spares availability and an engine type that comes from a family that allows me to fit a bigger/turbo/other variant and raid a more common parts bin than Rover/MG allows for with the Metro/Maesto/Montego sourced F.

The F replaced a Ford Probe that had an engine from a Mazda MX-6 competition car that never went anywhere that I had helped develop for Japan. It had 330bhp and revved to 8400rpm. With a short gearbox fitted with a road car 5th gear it returned 23mpg in daily use, sounded like a motorbike and had lethal torque steer.
The engine went to the US and the car was used as a donor for someone who tried to replicate the Japanese engine.

I have been considering this for while now but it has to be something that my wife is happy driving as well.

The S2000 is too old for me

I think I pefer the 370Z but prices are a bit high for them at the mo

I think a TVR is out as it will be too powerfull for her

I keep looking at the boxter but am really unsure

I like the Z4 but she thinks the bonnet is too long, maybe i will have to get her to drive one.

I do like the MK2 TT though (and so does She) probably the 200bhp petrol due to the low mileage we do.

and like you I still want to keep the TF to play with.

My list as you will see varies greatly but hopefully if luck favours me I will get a chance of owning at least one or two of them in the years to come. If petrol prices keep going up then probably not the Monaro. For time being though I am happy with my MG TF as it's giving me enough cheap thrills.

Elise MkII
Vauxhall Monaro
Vauxhall VX220 turbo
Gilleta G40R
and really fancy an Abarth (160 bhp version of course)

I replaced mine with a z4 3.0l economy wise it's more or less the same to run. Insurance a tad more for me. Goes very very well and so far has been faultless. I too had the same choices but found
Honda abit dull in normal driving,
Boxster was great to drive but much more expensive to run and not as reliable as you may think.
TVr no use as an only car.
350z is basically french.

I love mine so much, I'll hopefully have it forever. I don't use it much and its very well looked after, so I want it to be in the family for a long time.
My wife gets a company car with her job, but she works from home 90% of the time, so that's our work horse which I use most days. Its the Kia C'eed I mention in my avatar.
My next toy which I plan to get in the next 5 years will be a ZT260 V8.... I've always always wanted one.
So I'll hopefully still have the F and have a 260 as well.

I test drove a couple of 350Zs for a mate when he was looking at them. Quite underwhelming really, cramped (and I'm barely 5'8") and fairly boring. Quick enough in a straight line and hadling was ok but really not that impressed. Mate ended up with an RX8, got bored of that and now has an Elise.

I'll not be replacing our Fs any time soon, nothing really appeals that's comparable. About the only thing that would tempt me would be a TVR, but would have to be one with the Speed 6 - but will probably be putting one of those in the wife's BGT (although I've just discovered the Aston Martin V12 fits, and is not a lot heavier than the Rover V8...). The 4.0 and 4.0HC in the Chims don't really make that much power, for a TVR.
