What the bloody hell is going on?!

So I just got my renewal through from Quinn Direct. I was quite looking forward to it to be honest, as being only 20 I was expecting another year's experience and another year's no claims would bring my premium down a lot.

Buuuut, it's MORE THAN LAST YEAR?! :yikes:

what the hell. It's almost £100 more than last year too, I was paying just under a grand then, and my renewal is £1049.

This is getting to be ridiculous now, seriously. That's TPFT as well!

I got straight onto confused.com as I thought I must be able to find a better deal elsewhere but oh no, the cheapest quote I can get is like £3k!

What the hell is going on here? I didn't realise insurance prices have gone up so much, its a joke!

What is also strange, is that if I have my girlfriend as a named driver (she's 18, with less than a year's driving experience and so no NCB) it brings the price DOWN :dunno:

After almost 4 years driving, and 3 years no claims bonus, I've just about had enough of insurance companies raping me. Goddamn...

I know how you feel. Even with a lot of shopping around I'm still paying around £150 more than I was 3 years ago, thats with more no claims and a car that worth 2k less than It was then. Senseless.
call me cynical , but i suspect that changing from 20 to 50 insurance groupings has made it very easy for the companies to screw us over ??

You are cynical.

It has nothing to do with the revised groupings, there has been a nationwide increase in insurance rates, almost everyone is effected, myself included and I work in the industry.

To the OP, your current insurers have had their ups and downs over the past 12 months, like all insurers, it looks like their rates are also going up.

having read press releases the insurance companies behind the group changes released i don't believe why they say they have done it .
hidden agenda comes to mind.
if it were down to the companies performance it doesn't explan the huge increases.
Like Ollie said, Quinn went into Administration, then came back out of it (I believe), and notified all their customers that prices would increase (they were losing alot of money because they were so cheap in the first place). So Quinn will be particularly higher anyway, even without the current increase in all premiums.

I was with Quinn, and have had nothing but trouble with them, particularly when I was involved in an accident. When I got the Nova I cancelled my Policy with them rather than changed car on it, and moved to Barclays Insurance (who have proved to be very helpful so far, and I have all the optional extras included on my Policy for a rather good fee :))
To be fair to Quinn - they were quick and relatively hassle free when I claimed through them

My policy went from about £1100 to a renewal quote of near £2900 if I stayed with Quinn!!

have you tried admiral Ben? What about adding your parents to the policy? :)

Tbh you will never win with insurance.

I'm now 32 with 11 or 12 years no claims.

My ZTT CDTI still costs me just over £400 a year to insure.

I have to say even mine went up but more managable than yours Ben - £9.00. There are lots of variables as we know with insurance such as where we live, how many claims etc etc. There has been a general rise because of the current financial climate keeping themselves a float as a business. I'm afraid age 25+ and experience 5yrs+ is the only guarenteed thing to reduce prices.

NB I'm 31, 10yrs no claims, SP30's, had in excess of 29 cars changing policies every few months or so and usually on a car with ins. grp 14+. A number of claoms from wither side and I pay £210 tpft with protected no claims all mods declaired. It's very hard to get a feeling for how it happens but each policy is unique.
Seems that I got lucky, mine with Quinn went down by £450 and that was with an SP30 added.

Can't make sense of insurance.
My renewal went up, but after spending 45 minutes on the phone to them (Aviva) I managed to get it down, and cheaper than the previous year (as I expected it to be anyway).

It can be done, but you have to push hard. The bloke I spoke to was superb, and British, which was helpful.
I'm going to give them a ring today and see where I stand. To be honest, I was hoping it to be under the £800 mark :(

Yep, parents are both on the policy as well. I'll let you all know how it goes on the phone with them. I may have to end up paying the full amount though...
We had our renewal through recently. Thought it was a bit much so called them and asked for a discount, and got one. 15%, just like that. Always worth ringing them.
