How long is this site going to be in existance? With no Rover or MG, is this just going to be a Forum reminising on what used to be?

Sorry to sound glum but this is playing around my head...

Don't be so negative. You have had a go at others for being negative, so why are you doing the same thing that you damn others for.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and fight again tomorrow.

After all, MG Rover isn't in Administration yet. Who knows what may happen. We thought it was all over in 2000, but it wasn't. Just wait and see.

Well, my cars are still the same as they were at lunchtime - so why not "business as usual"?

Classic car fora seem to do well enough.

If anything the site will be the only place to sort out like minded problems with people who currently own MG-R products. If no one out there will care, then people on the forums will, if anything become more knowledgable for the people who still like/own MG-R cars :)

Its a viable question. You can't help but be slightly negative in a situation like this...

If the worst comes to the worst, could I suggest a site dedicated to all the true British brands, e.g Triumph, Jag, Land Rover, etc

I think this sites technical section is needed now more than ever!

Some of the so called insider info has been shown to be totally rubbish, as i always suspected, but you get to know who to ignore on that front after a while....

The only thing is the name, will it be allowed to be called MG-Rover.org by the new powers that be ?

The site's bills are paid by the Dealer Network part of the site. No MGR Dealers - no funding, quite simple really.

Don't worry though, the site will live on....

This may sound negative BUT, i would imagine most of the cost of this site comes through the forums, what with bandwidth usage and all. Without the income from the dealer networks funding is going to be very difficult. You could run on donations but it's risky and not many people would offer a regular supply. You must also consider the fact that with MGR gone there will be less influx of new users, i would also imagine some existing users would be come less frequent visitors.
From past experience forums and sites of past subjects/companies often struggle to stay alive for long.

I feel sorry for you Steve because i am sure you will want to keep this site alive and unfortunately that will almost certainly end up with you having to foot most the bill, something i doubt you'd realisitically be able to continue indefinetly.

Whatever happens to MGR, there will still be X million MG and Rover Cars on the road, so why shouldn't the forum live on? Now is not the best time to be selling an MG or Rover car and I for one will be keeping mine for a few more years.

I has to be borne in mind that receivers/administrators do not always mean the end of a company. If they're thorough enough and know what they're doing, who's to say there won't still be MG or Rover cars still being produced in 20 years time.

If the dealer network does fold, then ther will be a lucrative niche for Rover specialists, who will need to advertise their existence, particularly for those with nearly new vehicles. Could be a whole new revenue stream... :2c:

As mentioned the problem is cost of running a site this big, not the demand for keeping it going which obviously is not going to diminish too much.

If Steve can secure a viable income to secure the sites cost i doubt very much this site will be going anywhere. I just don't envy him in having to sort it out is all.

Too right!, also people like Unipart will still be going so parts will still be available for MG-Rover cars, so would be able to advertise on here also. There will be ways and means im sure, just likeother millions of forums on the internet.

There's forums for Triumph, Hillman etc. on the net, and even Import Cars...

There's millions of Rovers on the roads, and this forum will probably see a "peak" in hits now, and (if Rover do cease production for good) a decline over the next 5 years or so....

I bet this site will still be here in 5 years, whatever happens.... I'll still be here anyway..... and I bet most of you out there will be!

Please wait a few days to make threads like this. Today is going to be very interesting day I think, and MG-Rover and certainly this site, will I believe survive. If Hewitt can offer money to suppliers and then tell them DTI will help them find new business she is once again undermining MG-R. What is this stupid idiot playing at. She knows they aren't in administration, and yet she continues making statements that are damaging to MG-R chances of finding a solution to keep Longbridge going.

This site will always be needed as long as there are MG/Rover cars on the road, and there are now so many so lets not get too down!
