Took her for the annual MOT - passed....YAY!!. Only two advisories, one for slight play in NSF ball joint and the other for a minor oil leak which I will address over the forthcoming weeks. Another cheap MOT for me, keep 'em coming like that is what I say!!!

Peeled back the cover off the TF to begin waking her from her winter slumber. Changed the oil, checked the air filter and plugs and removed the rear wheels to have a poke around. All looking OK so far apart from the rust blisters that have grown :(

I had me fingers crossed.
No mention of rusty subs? That's what I get every year.
So that means the near side door handle/lock was not an issue?

Well done any way. You can enjoy the sunshine over the weekend.

Actually, the subs are very good, surprisingly enough! - no mention at all of the NS door lock being a blank etc. Hopefully the sun will be out but I might be inside.....painting the hall, stairs and landing for my sins. Still, might get chance for a blast out and now that I don't have a huge MOT bill to face, I might get around to ordering that Jetex panel filter..............

Thanks and hope you get chance for a spin, too.....

FACT. All sunny weekends must be taken up by doing work INSIDE! (I didn't make the rules)
FACT. Any money saved on the MG must be spent on house bling by another unnamed occupant. (I'm trying to be PC)

My default response after an MOT to offset this ruling is: 'The car has been in the garage. I need to give it a run out just to check it over'.

Also sorted out the clock on the same F, previous owner had put perm live to clock light not clock...dur!! also on same F, dismantled passenger side window motor as it had seized...once cleaned, silicone greased and put back together worked fine until fully lowered, then it stuck....freed it off but will keep an eye on it. Oh, also took it out for a spin :)

I fitted my tank level sensor and bonnet lights today (see separate threads).
Also replaced my busted binnacle and a broken door speaker grille and fully cleaned and valeted my car ready for a run out with the Potteries and South Cheshire MG club to Foxfield railway tomorrow. 8 hours enjoyable work on my car in great sunshine.
Tomorrow I get the fun of driving it!

Removed old Kenwood Tape/external CD changer

Not exactly today, but yesterday / last weekend...

Completely stripped out the original Kenwood cassette tape player / radio + external CD changer mounted in the boot which, according to service history, was installed on the period that the TF was built for its first owner. ... nearly 15 years old!

In the world of FLAC / DAB / Bluetooth, it's not something I would keep in the TF forever.

Now to save up for a more modern ICE ...

Yesterday I popped the hood to let the car breath.

I then jacked her up at the front and rested her on axle stands, drained the hydragas fluid (not that there was much) and started on the subframe bolts. 4 of the rear bolts came out easily and 2 got a dose of plusgas and will get more over the next few days until the impact driver comes out. 2 of the front mount bolts came out easily, however it appears that the captive nuts for the other 2 failed at some point in a previous life so the bolts had been put in upside down with a nut on the bottom, not a chance of undoing these and as there is no room for the angle grinder so out came the drill, tedious or what.

Today I took off the cat which had sucked a briquette into the exit hole causing serious power loss over 4000 rpm. Top bolt on the left was a nightmare!!! MY2000 VVC.

Replaced it with a shiny new decat pipe.

So the exhaust system now comprises of a Direnza 4-2-1 SS manifold and downpipe. TT MK7/2 SS back box with decat pipe.

I firmly believe that the VVC does not lose any power when fitting a decat...On the contrary. I have not RR the car but I know my car like the back of my hand. She now does 35 in first, before decat she was 30. She now does 70 in second, before decat 64. She now does 95 in third, before decat 90. She now does 115 in fourth, 110 before decat. All on a private road of course.

Also...I have this small section of road that I test all my cars on, it's a few hundred meters long. Before the decat Molly reached 78mph on this road...Time and time again. First run following decat she hit 84mph!

There you have it...Not very scientific I know but I also know for a fact that my torque has improved throughout the rev range...Increased mph in every gear and the sound....Well that's another story!!!

Now all that you have to worry about is passing the next MOT :)

Not very scientific true, but your evidence is quite clear.

Tried out my new ramps, so I could wire brush up my rear subframe and treat with jenolite before giving a nice new coat of black underseal spray.
Took the opportunity to replace an intermittent reversing switch and tidy up around the jacking points.
Also fitted a new temp sensor for the rad fans and replaced my boot and bonnet lights to LED.
