A lot of Longbridge land sold, K-series design sold, MG, 25, 75 etc.. Where is the cash from these? Is whats left of the company enough to exist as a stand alone entity?

Gut feeling, SAIC have had this planned all along, wait for the man to die then plunder his assets.

One word....

Hope.

You said it Steve! I'm not giving up hope yet! I believe we are in for a few more twists and turns before this is all resolved. There are still more MG-Rover chapters yet to be written.

I'm certainly not giving up hope either, the situation for the company and its workers might look bleak, but they've been through dark times before and survived them. If the worst comes to the worst, we can be guaranteed that some car manufacturer somewhere will at least see the appeal of the MG brand name, and decide to buy it. The Rover name might be too badly tarnished to be saved, but the MG name still means a lot to car buyers the world over, as is proved by it increasing it's sales a good 20% this year in a market that is down 7% overall.

There's also a ray of hope from the RD/X60 project - up and coming car companies would be foolish to let (from what we know) such a well thought out, promising and well developed car slip through their fingers. If another company does buy the project, they'll most likely need MG Rover's engineers to finish the project - after all, who better to finish the development of a car than the people who've been working on it since day one?

This idea isn't getting enough of an airing in public. Once they saw this was possible, that proably became their strategy. And all the whilst, the management was willingly packing stuff up and shipping it over to China.

MGR was strung along, and people in the UK need to know this.

So now SAIC have? The 25, 45, and 75 rights in China? And the k-series?

And what about all the SAIC people in the UK, and MGR people in China?

We've all been had. SAIC?:itschy:

A lot of Longbridge land sold
Well if it's sold, it hasn't been sold to SAIC, and it isn't part of MGR anymore, so how would SAIC acquire sold Longbridge land?

That leaves a very small amount of land at Longbridge not sold.

There's the possibility SAIC could purchase back the leaseback land which was sold, but they would only get preference if they could claim to own MGR. That means suddenly owing BMW £500m.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a grant and build a new factory in the UK?

I thought SAIC hads to float shares to get the money for the deal as it is, and had to rope in Nanjing just for the factory space. Something smells fishy!

K-series design sold, MG, 25, 75 etc..
This is more worrying IMO. but we don't know how dependent on the main deal any of these IP's were, or if they were sold direct to SAIC, or to a JV company that now doesn't (won't?) exist. Maybe these were only ever available as liscenced IP's, in which case, MGR got a money-making deal for old stuff.

Where is the cash from these?
Good question. Surely nexus is ready, or MGR has a few new vehicles ready for sign off (surely enough to borrow on if necessary), or there's money elsewhere.

Is whats left of the company enough to exist as a stand alone entity?
Hopefully, and if they will now have to, wouldn't it be nice if MGR decided to engineer this crisis in order to break free from SAIC, with money in hand, liscencing agreements, and - who knows?- a separate deal with Nanjing?

What a shame that we can't either fast forward time so that we can see what the outcome is, or press rewind and change what has happened in the past.
