Hey guys, sort of following on from my last thread

i know i need a front bumper obviously, there cheap as chips at around 20 quid on ebay and as im cutting it up i dont need it to be perfect or scratch free just not warped

can anyone tell me if there are different types? ebay list the year and weather it was a 214 or 218, does this make any difference?

the wings are cheap and as im not bothered about colour this should be a bargin too

right now heres the bigggy

do i really need to change my bonnet? what issues would i have if i dont?

and i believe the slam panel needs changing, is this a big job? does anyone have a pic of what i need to change to clarify for me please?

naturally if anyone is doing a R220 to ZR/25 front end conversion i would be happy to swap parts but my front bumper is pretty goosed

incase anyone is wondering why im doing this btw it's because i want a custom front end, my car allready has a body kit (its a show car or will be when im done)

but the front end needs a re-build i want a middle grill and radiator opening like the Mk2 ZR but smothed out everywhere else

the bottom will be mk2 style to show off my front mount intercooler and the splitter off my bodykit moulded into the bumper.... fitting a 200 front end will allow use of the 200 headlight with the indicators in one so i can smooth off more of the bumper

this is what give me the idea allthough mine wont look like this exactly

You NEED the 200 bonnet.

I converted my old 200 to a ZR before breaking it. And can clarify you need the appropriate bumper, bonnet and wings.

The 200 slam panel can be modified to accomodate ZR lights (which I did), however I don't think it's possible to do the opposite. As to modify it to fit ZR lights involved cutting sections out of it and doing some welding around the light area (nothing structural). Trying to do this in reverse would be hell to try and get the beam/light angles correct, would be less hassle to just weld a new panel on.

Also, alot of people will come into the thread saying you need Fancy jigs and laser alignment to weld a new slam panel on. You actually don't. A level workshop floor coupled with some decent measuring tools and levels, and alot of patience triple checking every measurement and spot-weld is in line works perfectly. I've converted a couple 200's to ZR's front ends for Rallying purposes in the past this way.

bugger it sounds like it's going to be a total git.... im sure the body shop i'm going to use will be able to manage it but it's going to hit my wallet a bit :( least it will be something totally different when im done

my only problem is going to be buying a 200 slam panel, im guessing if there part of the shell that getting hold of one will be a pain in the behind

i reckon so bud :) my back will be totally different to that R200, i dont like over smooth-ness and the back of the R200 is too flat for me, plus although im de-badging and remvoing the ZR and flags from the back and loosing the boot lock (solinoided anyway) im keeping both MG badges

so it's not going to be a copy of that car, just using it as a prompt :)

erm a bit 'phat' for me i think, i dont like massive fiberglass buldges and sticky out bits on cars, i like by subtal bodykit but whenever i see a car like that i just think slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... not just becuase of the massive air resistance but because of the amount of catty, fiberglass etc etc that must have went into the kit and note no under bonnet shots so he's obv not packing the ponies to back it all up (unlike my car.... well soon anyway)

on the other hand the lights are lush and the interior (apart from the sticky out speakers, steering wheel and pointless roll cage/rear seat combo (again weight??)) is amazing :)

each to their own :D
