Thought it would be nice to start a positive thread rather than oodles of negativeness. If you going to post anything negative, please refrain from posting here and post in the other thread headed up negative thoughts.

What has MG Rover left to offer?

  • The MG TF is the best selling roadster in the UK.
  • The MG ZR is the best selling Hot Hatch in the UK.
  • The MG ZR beat all it's rivals in the Auto Express Driver Survey, except Citroen C2, MINI, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz.
  • The MG ZS beat all it's rivals in the Auto Express Driver Survey, except Honda Civic.
  • The MG ZT beat all it's rivals in the Auto Express Driver Survey, except Mazda6, Lexus IS and Honda Accord.

Any others to add?

- Nexus / RD60 must be at a fairly advanced stage. That could be an enormous asset for someone, especially if it has variants that appeal to Chinese buyers, for example.

- The Antonov transmissions as well (though maybe MGR doesn't have any rights over them).

The Old Octavia is no longer sold in the UK.

Check Auto Express again, the ZT was also beaten by the Mazda6 and Honda Accord - both rivals to the MG ZT in terms of sportiness and quality.[/QUOTE]

The Micra doesn't offer a performance version, not until the Summer of this year, so how can it currently be a rival to the MG ZR?

Some more things MGR has to offer -

Key priorities for the task force will be to examine ways of building on MG/Rover technology, including the development of hybrid cars, lightweight structures and new engines; supporting key suppliers and helping them find new customers and expand into new market sectors; and backing the company's skilled workforce in the search for alternative jobs in other industries.
(from http://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=news.story.page&obj_id=121590)

I wonder if the lightweight structure technology is some of the work on the aluminium sports-cars we hear about? Or if the Pininfarina Double-Face rumours were true?

Hope so.

That's because the fat lady isn't even in the building, never mind standing on the stage :)

Thats Powertrain not MGR & it will still belong to Antonov I would think although Powertrain probably has the right to build it:

Quote: the Engineer / Business News - 08 April 2005

"Antonov’s six-speed AAD gearbox is due to go into series production with tier one supplier Powertrain in 2007, and has already been demonstrated in an MG Rover Streetwise vehicle."

Sorry, haven't got the new issue of the Engineer yet. Good magazine. The last issue has details of Lotus' lightweight composite family car development programme - if only that were MGR!
