I'm off, I've had enough of you MGF lot, I'm off to get a proper car on Sunday :p

Aww don't worry James, I may follow you into diesel-land at some point (not selling the NV though). In the future driving 25-30 miles each way to work in the F would be finanical suicide (and a waste of a lovely car). Looking at getting a ZS diesel saloon - although I'm determined to save up for it (no loans!) so it may be a while coming :D

Why do people convince themselves that it is worth changing just to get a diesel for economy ?

50 miles @ 50mpg @ ÂŁ1.05 = ÂŁ1.05
50 miles @ 38mpg @ ÂŁ0.95 = ÂŁ 1.25

I cannot believe that anybody here is having to cost their motoring to within 20p per day.

We have just tried the calculations here at work. It will take one of our reps 74000 miles to claw back the cost of the diesel motor over an equivalent petrol motor - then we will really start to make savings of around 50p a day.

As always with company motors, "official" consumption and cost info is used.

I do agree with possibly keeping an F/TF for Sunday Best and running a cheap, old, low spec hatch for daily use - especially when the MG is getting a bit old.

I agree, I need a car with space as well though, and one my mum (who's getting on in age now) can get in and out of easily as a daily thing and my dad can get in and out of at all , so getting a diesel at the same time just made sense considering I can't afford to get or run a second car.
