As the title states should I get a private plate for my V8, the "management" thinks not, says that they are a waste of money and just cannot see the point in them.

I can't get V8my initials or anything that comes close and have come up with several options via the DVLA website plus a couple of Northern Irish registrations from a dealer ending in 75, however I'm not too happy with the cost via a cherished registrations dealer.

Thought I'd post a poll, to run for 14 days, to see what others think and it should help me to make a decision either way or what type to get.

Jim, you can 'request' DVLA for any plate (as long as it is not already issued) They can, at their discression put it up for auction at one of their sales, all you need to do then is hope you don't get outbid!
just change your name to to Mr W166MKH* that would only cost you £50 for a deed pole and you dont have to splash out on the new plates either

*that isnt my number plate it was my old clio has probably been recycled back into baked bean cans

That's the problem the V8my initials has already been issued.
If you really do keep forgetting who you are ( I do, Lol. ) then get it tattooed on your arm ( I have. ) then you can go from car to car without having to worry about changing the number plate all the time.
You know it makes sense !!

As long as you are not going to change your car too often.. lol. 100 squid every time isn't it.... :irked: Grrrr, Poppy.
sorry Jimbo. I agree with them managment, cant see the point in them. unless you spend many thousands most folk looking at it wont have a clue what its meant to mean, except the person who bought it, spend the £££ on fuel and enjoy the car mate, Tam
my dad always say if it wouldnt bother the plod he wouldnt have one at all
None of the options. Go for a dateless or a short Northern Ireland plate. It makes a lot of difference to the look of your car, and disguises the age as well.

I wanted a nice short plate, and the short NI ones (i.e. 3 letters and 2 numbers) were generally £1500-£2000... I got my one (SXI 45) for just over £1k. As it's not specific to any car or person, it'll be easy to sell on if I ever decide to part with it, and it looks great on the car.
I won me MG03 ROB on fleabay just after I bought the ZTT, unfortunately the guy who sold it to me had never put it on a car and only had the retention certificate, the grantor had gone overseas and so we lost the plate as we could not put it on any car after that without the Grantor doing so first.

Luckily I did not lose any money as I actually tried to get DVLA to transfer it before I paid anything. But the missle guy lost hundreds on it.

Anyway, go with what you want it's all in the eye of the owner, not who's looking on IMHO.

Regards, Rob.
Did you know V18 ROV is available for £310

or V 40ver for £285 ( V ROVER)
Don't get a car specific plate, unless you plan on keeping the car forever.

You won't want to transfer it when the car goes and you'll never see the money if it's included in the sale.

Get a personal plate from wherever, and for as little or as much as you want. It's yours for life and if you choose to sell it later you will get your money back plus interest.;)

Our household has P222 URR and P333 URR. We like cats. ;) Simple, personal and cheap. :)

I was looking at that sort of thing with the 75 in mind - say LUI75 - but they tend to be circa £1500+

Cheers
