Water Ingress through rear light

I am sure there must already be a thread on here but can't find it.

I have got water coming into my boot (quite a bit) by the nearside light and presume that is where it is getting in.

Is it is a simple as just removing the light, sealing with silicone and refitting?

Silicon will work, but replacing the gasket is a better and even simpler option though IMO.

I was just going to say check the foam gasket. And while its off waxoil/pain the bottom to stop rust.
OK thanks for that, I will nip down to my local dealer and get a new gasket.

I had the car waxoyled a few weeks ago, not sure they did round the rear light though!

Its just under, there is a weld seam, and i saw an F eat its self from the inside out with rust from there. So i did mine with hammerite a good thick line down the weld and seams.

I lifted the carpet and had a good look around and there is no sign of damp or rust beloow thie light. I has only started in the last couple of weeks so am assuming it is coming in through the light gasket. Also had a a poke around and pushed various points on the light and water trickled down on the outside (like squeezing a sponge). I will replace the foam gasket and have a good check round all the seams.

Thanks for the additional info.

Saw your post (Coleman) regarding lowering the suspension, I have been thinking of that - again more from the visual point of view so the wheels are higher in the wheel arch. Trouble is, my Leon splitter is bashed to pieces from too many groundings and I even managed to bend (what is i presume) the tow point below the front suspension with standard ride height!
