Just thought I'd put pen to paper over my experiences with warranties recently.

I bought a warranty from Warranty Direct about 18 months ago and have since had an Air con condenser and horn replaced on my 04MY CDTi. I had no problems in claiming and with the usual deductions for wear and tear (I do 28k per year) I have had them paid promptly and in full.

However (and this is where it gets interesting!) recently, I had a MAF sensor problem (intermittent power loss and poor fuel consumption) that my local MG Rover dealer (as was) couldn't trace. They sent me to a diesel specialist who said I should take the car to a MG Rover specialist who told me to go a diesel spec.......(can you see where this is going!?) and so on.

So I called up Warranty Direct and spoke to one of their engineers who ran through all the checks that needed to be done (which had been done) and conceded that the MAF sensor faults often don't appear on the T4 check, especially when they are intermittent!

Then I had an idea! I suggested to WD that I would buy the MAF sensor, fit it myself (I am an aeronautical engineer by trade) and if the fault remains they would hear no more from me. But if it fixes it then I would ask them to pay for the part. The engineer said OK! They also agreed to pay the full price of the part without wear and tear deduction (which would have been 20%) because I wasn't going to invoice them any labour.

Needless to say the MAF sensor fixed it and I now have my old car back. 550-600 miles per tank (had got as bad as 400) and no 'turbo lag'!

So really I guess what I'm trying to say is what an astonishing display of common sense from Warranty Direct. Well done.

At the moment peoples dealing with WD seems to be something of a mixed bad of some good and some bad.
