This was on German news at 01.50am yesterday - just seen the tape!

German carmaker Volkswagen AG said Friday it will buy some assets of German contract carbuilder Wilhelm Karmann GmbH to create a new manufacturing subsidiary that will eventually build a new car model.

Volkswagen said it will begin vehicle production at Karmann's main Osnabrueck, Germany, site and headquarters in 2011, but did not specify what new car it would produce there. It didn't release any financial details.

yes, I see the post about the collapse is from April. That's a very long time in Germany.

Could it be the curse of the poet?

John Switzer said:
An Ode to Karmann by Hilda Thudd Aged 14 years and 7 months

Auf Widersehen to Karmann, the Teutonic coachbuilder
But before you go, did you ever consider
Why there’ll probably be no bidder?
You once produced the Karmann Ghia
A downright beautiful car – that few others come near
So achingly beautiful , it makes me shed tears into my beer
But what have you done since 1960?
That was either clever, thirfty or even nifty?
So do we get to see "Osnabrück" in Mandarin again?
