Hi All,

So I've got round to wiring in a Dual USB Socket in my ZR.
I've taken the feed from the existing 12v Aux. Socket.

It all works swimmingly, but the USB socket illuminates and it is permanently illuminated, so it seems the aux. feed is permanently live.
I'm now worried about it draining the battery. Can anyone suggest an easy to reach ignition switched live near the bottom of the dash. I'm loathed to cut into the CD Player wiring harness. :/

@Roverlike , you're the resident electronics guru, any thoughts? (Would the USB socket be ok staying on the permanent feed?)

Weather or not it can drain your battery depends how socket is electronicaly made. If it gets remotely warm while doing nothing, then it drains some form of power. If not it might be good, but this is perception "by thumb". To realy know you would need ro measure how much power it drains or not by multimeter.
Usualy you should be fine as this kind of thing should not drain any power if not used, but as I said, I do not know how it is made elctricaly inside, and how good it is made.

If you want safe route, neareast switched wire is from radio, but need to know how much radio drains power plus this potentialy new 4.2 Amps as stated.
However, you could always put new wire to the fuseboard with new fuse for only this purpose.

Well, it doesn't get warm, but there is a light. That is permanently illuminated.
I've unplugged it for now, but has been in situ over 11hrs and no problems.

I have considered running a new fuse, but how would I "create" the slot for it, I have several empty but there is "nothing there" behind it?

Have you measured by multimeter that you do not have any power on the terminals of the empty fuse?

EDIT: You can always introduce a small switch to cut the power manualy, at your current setup...
